Where has it all gone? Let's compare ourselves to other 'big clubs' for a minute. Forget about Chelsea as Abrahmovic has taken them into a financial institution of their own. But if we look at Arsenal and UTD, we will see exactly where we are going wrong.
We bring in so many millions a year in gate receipts, prize money, TV revenue etc ALA Arsenal and Man UTD and along with the Mancs, we are arguably the most famous club in the world and thus, generate many millions a year in merchandising.
So why is it then that we seem to have considerably less money in the transfer market than the other 2, year in, year out?
I'll tell you why. Player profits my friends, player profits. It's all about maximising your assets. Football these days is no longer just a sport, it's now a business.
Take a look at our transfer fees recieved/money blown ratio. It is ridiculous at best. What on earth is going on behind the scenes? Are the financial aspects of the club being run properly at all, i ask myself? Or are we just plain unlucky in the transfer market? Surely not. Every player we sell (bar the odd few) is sold at a loss - Sometimes a loss of immense proportions.
Take Heskey and Diouf.
Expenditure : 20mil +
Income on sell on = 6/7mil approx.
What the **** is going on here then?
We spend 8mil on Pennant who, if resold a whole 4 months later would fetch about a quarter of that. If we go through the squad over the last few years, the list of player losses (financial)is endless.
Cheyrou
Diao
Heskey
Diouf
Berger
Cisse
Baros
kirkland
Josemi/ KK........
ETC... ...........
The list is endless, wheras Arsenal can make a 20mil+ profit on Nicolas ****ing Anelka.
Even worse, three of our best homegrown talents over the last 10/15 years in Fowler, Macca and Owen have been sold for a grand total of about 20 mil.
Jesus Christ. At the time they were sold, the total sum of money they were worth in this days transfer market must be close to 50mil. 50mil and we get ****ing 20!
Now, what does all this money we should have saved, equate to? Well it equates to Wayne Rooney, Fernando Torres and a couple more of that calibre, that's what. (not essentially those exact players but WORLD CLASS players).
Does the problem lie in our scouting department? The boardroom - Are Moores and Parry financial divvies?
Whatever's going on, there's something rotten behind closed doors at Anfield and maybe this supposed new investment and a whole shift around of the club, off the field, is what's needed.
