We didn't have a single threat in behind Utd during the home game, that's fine at home, if Sturridge starts we'll get penned in our own half as he won't (on the evidence of last Thursday) stretch them in behind and work selflessly for the team.

I'd do the opposite to Shaggy and others, bring Sturridge on to take advantage after 60-70 mins or to use (in the unlikely event) if we need a goal.
to the Sturrige analysis. I'd definitely start Coutinho though. Him playing balls through for a mobile pacy striker like Origi strike me as an excellent way to push them back or hit them on the break depending on how the flow of the game goes.

I'm hoping a full week of Klopp's psychology + tactical acumen will have the team both fired up and prepared fully for them.
lol I didn't want to say it but now you have opened it up I will

the only way I see a united win is if we beat ourselves.

I do think though we have started to show more bottle and fight under Klopp - earlier on in the season, 1-0 up at half time and a team changing things and coming at us for 20 mins in the second half and we would have lost it 1-2/3

instead, we dug deep, made changes of our own, took control and went and got a second.

I just think we need a little more defensive balance away from home, imo Milner was nailed on to start in the home win if he hadn't been ill, working on the substitution it may well have been instead of Sturridge with Firmino as a 9.

Sturridge is still getting up to speed but so far under Klopp he's been a lot better away from home - Southampton, Villa for example - and he's super quick (although seems reluctant to really put his foot down) so I'd be starting him all day long. After all he scored in the first leg too.

We'd give United an unnecessary confidence boost before the match starts if we dropped Sturridge. Same with Coutinho.

Play our best team, go for the jugular, kill teh game off early.
If we are all only happy when we are really winning in the end, when your race finishes, what life would that be?

He could also ping one in from 25/30 yards and kill them stone dead. Other than a rare Coutinho worldie, there's no-one else likely to score something from nothing in our team.

There will also be more space for through balls for him, he loves those. I can understand the Origi argument and I wouldn't be 100% against it, but I think we should start with Sturridge.

All jokes aside though, as crap as he is, I'd have preferred if he wasn't playing against us. Aerial balls are still a weakness for us and he nearly scored late on at Anfield that would have completely changed the outlook for the second leg.
Yup not seeing the glee that he's playing. He was probably their best player in the first leg and his attributes are perfect for hurting us if they decide to go long ball as they've done effectively against us under LVG.

Even with a two goal head start i can't stand these games.

...you'll still get to hear Owen on BT Sport. In fact, at some point you'll probably be wanting to 'mute' him

Honestly can't see us turning up at OT with a 2 nil lead and playing the same starting team.
It's not FIFA, you need some defensive balance to the side.
Milner would have played at home if he wasn't ill, presuming he's fully recovered he's certain to play.
Now Fellaini has escaped a ban there's also a case to make for starting Benteke instead of Sturridge.

In fact, at 2 nil up away at Old Trafford I'd start either Origi or Benteke ahead of Sturridge.

Problems hey, it wasn't long ago we were bemoaning our striking options

It's a tough call to make. I very much agree that Origi's movement offers us more of a threat on the counter-attack; more-so than a static Sturridge. However, on any chance we create, I'd want Sturridge to be on the end of it.

I think I'm leaning towards Sturridge starting. But only just.

Apart from the 4-1 in 2009 and the 3-0 in 2014 this ground has been a car crash for Liverpool going all the way back to the Danny Murphy era when he had the amazing habit of popping up with a goal near the end to give us a 1-0 win

With that in mind this will be tense and tight and I expect we'll have our backs to the wall for the last 20 minutes clinging on to a 2-1 aggregate lead.

Fingers crossed we can just about scrape through

This is the hardest call to make.

I'm close too but leaning towards Origi starting because he will give Smalling, and particularly his partner, hell for 60 minutes. There will already be space for Lallirminho because Utd will be pushing for goals but with Origi we'll have many more one on one chances against De Gea. One of them has to go in.

If not Sturridge will come on against some very, very tired legs.
                                One tit for another.
