some players still think 'lets do this for the fans' but these days, they must be thinking why bother? the fans don't really care. One bad game/day and its all over.

I appreciate the idea, but the truth is we should've been in the title race this season and the chances we will ever be considered contenders this season are very slim. It's easier to get players performing when the incentive is to win silverware but I suspect the vast majority of our players will not now view the Premiership as something we are in to win this season.

I know we will improve our form considerably and show that we are amongst the best, make it to a CL spot etc but the fact is we had good reason to expect more than that this season and instead we have been atrocious.
I think the problem is partly as Ian Holloway said the fact that the number of new players has been much more difficult to incorporate than we thought. Add this to the fact that several key players came back in crap form from the WC and it is easy to think that rationally we should have expected a difficults start to the season.

Each time Rafa has attempted to evolve the way we play it has taken time to work out. It seems much worse this time but I think it is more of a divide between our expectations and the actuality than signs of a real crisis. If at the end of the season we have seen no progression in the style of play and we have only managed 4th then this season will have been a major disappointment, however I think if by the end of the season we have added attacking wide options to our play and got into the champions league then I think that we should be reasonably pleased in terms of the long run. The fear is that if all of this seasons gambles on players work out poorly then we will have to endure another transition season next year which would be shocking.

seems there's a massive difference between fan and supporter.

PL is out of the question this year

but we should support the players especially the new ones

a tough run of away games and no luck is not long enuff to judge and get on thier back, it aint helping no one
Stevie on target against the bitters
          linesman free kick against Riena
          Chav's wonder goal
Arses, 1st goal was always going to do it.
Scum - granted we never turned up.

I for one don't believe the majority of players go out not caring.
Lack of form and feeling peed off can look like it.

We're playing new systems and players.

I've been to all home match's and baring a bit of self confidence there's not a lot wrong.

Everyone shouts that we should of got Alves, but if he'd of took time to settle in he would of been branded as Speedy is now. Grass greener on the otherside come to mind.

I for one think Speedy Riise partnership is going to be good.

          Kuyt is the real deal.
Stevie and Xabi are performing below par but we know they have it in them.
Once these are playing upto speed players like Pennant will have role to play.

Agger looks to be the Defender we've needed to free up the midfield.
Its times like these we learn to live again FF

I'm glad the internet wasn't as big when Souness wasn't in charge - some of the moaning *******s on here would have fkin topped themselves.

A few ****e performances and people are running around crying for the manager to be sacked , the captain to be dropped and half the team to be sold.

There's a massive difference between caring about the clubs performance and expecting success as a divine right and crying like a baby when it doesn't happen.

They're going through a bad patch at the moment and so need our support , look up the word in the dictionary if you don't know what it means.

I have to say looking at the table yesterday in terms of points difference between us and those above us (excluding the top 2) it wasn't as bad as I presumed it would be.

Do you actually think that people who are justifiably critical of the team are not supporters?

Also, do you think Rafa's a) going to log on to Est and read our views and b) if he does read what's been written, he'll actually give a sh!t?

The only reaction that the players and manager really care about are by the fans that actually turn up to the games, home and away. No one gives a sh!t about 'phone in' and internet supporters.

You can be critical yet still be a supporter. In fact I would say that the worst type of supporter is one who turns a blind eye to their team's blatant problems and decides to support blindly whatever the costs ala the final GH months when he had so obviously lost the plot..

The problem is not justifiable constructive criticism though RS , it's people running round flapping after every loss and looking for scapegoats. As I said some people seem to think that if we aren't recreating Istanbul every 5 minutes then the club is in crisis and the sky is going to fall in.

I know that the club don't give a **** about internet fans reactions but negative and panicky attitudes can seep through to matchgoing fans and the team , as a consequence people try too hard to impress or are scared to try anything other than a basic pass dependent on what tyope of character they are.

4 points worse off than last season so where is the progress after several millions spent? Also is it realistic to go on 12 game winning streaks again? I doubt it. Its doom and gloom because it is doom and gloom. 4th is our best bet.

Why not third, I accept 1st and 2nd are out of our reach pretty much.

We finished above them last season. i don't think we are so far behind them right now that it couldn't happen again. Certainly not that we should be saying fourth is the best we can manage. Anyway, it will all be irrelevant when we win number 6 next May.
