I so can't be arsed with lauding a goalkeeper for making saves because he's set such a low bar for himself that the minimum job requirement is seen as a success or a good game. We've had this situation with Mignolet for years, and this guy is no better. (And no worse, before anyone starts jumping on me accusing me of saying that Mignolet is a better player - he isn't. They're about the same)

I think this is too big a job for him just now. If we had an older keeper to buddy up with Karius, to take the pressure off and show him how its done, then we might be in a bit of a better state - like if Reina was the old hand passing the gloves on. But we don't, we have Simon Mignolet who looks like he's scared of kittens.

I hope we don't wait as long as Arsenal did to fix their GK problem.

He may come good but preferably as an understudy IMO.

Their keeper put in an even worse performance but they won the game

This is where things become subjective

You would obviously say "he should have saved that and held on to it"

I tend to be a little sympathetic with him (maybe I am being generous) but no block or closing down allows the shooter to put more power behind the shot

Yes ideally I would have liked him to hold on to it but I am willing to give him the benefit of the doubt based on no protection being offered

I actually thought the MotD analysis with Troy Deeney and Jermaine Jenas was really good. They highlighted our defensive lack of concentration as much as the keeper, particularly on the forth goal. Its this organisation and concentration that Matip has brought to the back 4.

On the forth goal, Henderson lost his man who scored the goal, and Lovren was also in a horrible position. And thats without looking at letting the guy get a shot in. Ultimately we were undone by a sub who came on, scored, won a pen and set up a goal in 35 mins. A 35 min MOTM performance, we will not encounter that often. The annoying one was the shot Karius actually got to and sort of pushed it into the net, that was bad keeping.

Deeney and Jeans also highlighted that 'if' we have title aspirations this year we need a good keeper now, and can't afford to wait for one to come good.

City won the league recently with Joe Hart in goal and Leicester won it with Schmeichel

Yes they are better than Karius but neither of them are great keepers

I think this season has shown that Leicester was a bizarre anomaly and there is no point in bringing them up as an example. They had Wes Morgan and Robert Huth at centre back ffs!

all this "de Gea came good eventually" is grasping at best.
