It's been made public, obviously with Karius' permission, because it's publicity i.e. PR.

If it wasn't PR - why make it public? He's seen a doctor, he's got concussion apparently, treat it, job done. No need to involve the media...
I think people are confused to what exactly PR is. I get a bit confused myself sometimes. This image clarifies:

So for the PR - the doctor is basically saying 'Karius sustained a concussion'. Opposed to the club or Karius coming out and saying it themselves.

We've all ****ed up in games and we've all wanted to stay on the pitch and make up for the mistakes. And that's just on a Tuesday night at the sports centre.

I'm not sure anyone can really criticise him for staying on. If the medical staff could have had an inkling of the problem, it would have been their call in reality.

But a hugely difficult call to make whichever way look at it.

All of this happens on a regular basis in Rugby union. And you are correct in saying that many times players would not be the best judge on whether or not they should be allowed to continue, with the very fact that they are having to use their injured brains to make this judgement making it a bit of a catch 22.

This incident was not noticed by our medics, meaning no matter what happens (ie in every scenario) Karius stays on the pitch and makes the mistakes. The issue here is player protection.

Twice within the game Ramos injured one of our players. The Salah one is blatant, the extent of the injury would not be apparent to Ramos, but the intent is there. Again, unbelievably a tackle such as this would lead to at best a ten minute sin binning in Rugby (amazingly it didn't even get a second glance or talking to in football).

It is astonishing that Ramos didn't give away a free kick in the entire match. The issue football continues to have is with officiating and the use of VAR. If football were to pick up on the best uses of VAR in cricket, tennis and Rugby it would have itself a decent solution. VAR must be available to view in stadia though.

In an ideal world, the ref would be told to look at the Salah incident on slow mo. He would see the grab and Ramos would be sin binned for 10 minutes.

He would be asked to look at the Karius incident on VAR in consultation with the VAR and would decide to send Ramos off. Ramos skill is in making contact look clumsy, there is no coincidence in how often he is involved.

Rugby dealt with the potentially life threatening spear tackle in the same way. Red Card. Any early sense of injustice was soon policed out of the game, leading to a cleaner contest. Football should go the same way. Protecting a players head is paramount in Rugby, it should be in football also. A referee cannot be everywhere and see everything, so VAR is the only solution.

When someone comes under scutiny from fans and makes a further mistake (such as Karius has) it is virtually impossible to turn the tide round

Even if he has 6 months where he is faultless or brilliant the next time he makes a mistake it will be seized on by the doubters and he will be given pelters

For me its going to be very difficult for him to resurrect his career at LFC
Traore's own goal is a good example of this - it's literally the only thing I remember about him other than his name.

Loris Karius: Liverpool keeper referred for concussion tests by club

Liverpool goalkeeper Loris Karius was referred to medical experts in Boston after contacting the club while on holiday in the United States.

The 24-year-old German visited Massachusetts General Hospital and was diagnosed with concussion five days after the Champions League final.

Karius made errors for the first and third goals his side conceded in the 3-1 defeat by Real Madrid on 26 May.

Dr Ross Zafonte said it was "possible" the injury "would affect performance".

Shortly before his mistake for Real's opening goal, Karius collided with Spanish defender Sergio Ramos - but in a statement released with the player's permission, doctors did not say if that incident was the cause of the concussion.

Karius appeared to show no signs of injury and did not request any treatment during the game in Kiev, Ukraine.

The collision occurred early in the second half. Minutes later, the German threw the ball into the path of Real striker Karim Benzema, who stuck out his leg and scored.

Real's third goal came when Karius let a long-range shot by forward Gareth Bale slip through his hands.

Dr Zafonte, who is a leading expert in head injuries in the NFL, said Karius' assessment involved reviewing "game film", a "physical examination" and "objective metrics".

He added it was "likely" that "visual spatial dysfunction" - which hampers a person's ability to process visual information about where objects are in space - would have occurred immediately after the event that caused the concussion.

            'Football needs urgent review'

Following the incident, brain injury association Headway has called for football's concussion protocols to be "urgently reviewed".

New head injury measures were introduced by the Premier League and European governing body Uefa in 2014 which said only the doctor can decide whether a player should continue after a potential concussion.

Premier League rules were updated after Tottenham received criticism for allowing goalkeeper Hugo Lloris to continue playing after losing consciousness.

Headway chief executive Peter McCabe said: "It is alarming to hear that a player has played nearly half a match with a potential concussion.

"It is also very worrying that it has taken so long for this to be identified.

"Why wasn't the game stopped immediately so he could be examined on the pitch and what role did the fourth official play? Why wasn't he assessed immediately after the game or on his return to Liverpool?

"Football has recently made good progress regarding concussion but if mistakes have been made, especially in such a high-profile game with the world looking on, it is only right that the concussion protocols should be urgently reviewed and this matter given the correct scrutiny."

“We have received numerous calls today regarding the health status of Liverpool goalkeeper Loris Karius. With Mr. Karius’s permission, we are providing information about his medical situation in an effort to prevent, where possible, the dissemination of incomplete or erroneous information.

“On May 31, 2018 Mr. Karius underwent a comprehensive examination by Dr. Ross Zafonte and Dr. Lenore Herget in Boston at Massachusetts General Hospital and Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital.

“After carefully reviewing game film and integrating a detailed history – including his reported present and immediate post-contact subjective symptoms – physical examination and objective metrics, we have concluded that Mr. Karius sustained a concussion during the match May 26, 2018.

“At the time of our evaluation, Mr. Karius’s principal residual symptoms and objective signs suggested that visual spatial dysfunction existed and likely occurred immediately following the event. Additional symptomatic and objectively noted areas of dysfunction also persisted. It could be possible that such deficits would affect performance.

“We also note that Mr. Karius has reported significant and steady improvement since the concussive event, and we expect him to make a full recovery based on the results of the examination. We expect that with treatment and by following prescribed activity protocols he will continue to improve. We have encouraged vigilance and an emphasis on safety in his eventual return to full activity.”

Anyone would think we've never heard injury news on players! Reaction assuming this is just spin was inevitable, why would the club NOT want someone external that he'd seen to be the ones to comment?

With everyone just about getting over the incident and discussion moving towards the world cup, I'm sure Karius didn't want to get himself in the headlines again (ie feign an injury to excuse his performance).

As it is, evidence shows he was concussed and whether or not that excuses his performance is irrelevant, but it does give a different perspective and if he's asked for permission to make it public knowledge, at this stage why shouldn't he?

                    This **** face

Salah's injury: "Bloody hell, they've given this a lot of attention, the Salah thing ... I didn't want to speak because everything is magnified. I see the play well, he grabs my arm first and I fell to the other side, the injury happened to the other arm and they said that I gave him a judo hold. After the goalkeeper said that I dazed him with a clash. I am only missing Firmino saying that he got a cold because a drop of my sweat landed on him."

Apologies to Salah: "I spoke with Salah through messages he was quite good. He could have played if he got an injection for the second half, I have done it sometimes but when Ramos does something like this, it sticks a little bit more. I don't know if it's because you're at Madrid for so long and win for so long that people look at it a different way."

He should've laid there convulsing and frothing at the mouth to draw attention to what he'd encountered

Does that matter though? He would've been dealing with **** all season and it was only a head injury that caused him to make these errors
