My problem with Karius being our number two is that we are one injury away from him being our number one.

Poor ******* is going through some storm, I'm glad he's not walking alone.
We talk a good game as a fan base. But when one of our players actually needs the support of everyone. People run a mile and laugh about concussion or him just being a bit of a bad goalkeeper.
IMO we should be building him up, not constantly knocking the lad down.*Except Michael, who died.

I feel really sorry for him. I have done since the final. What's happening with the abuse he's receiving is depressingly inevitable.
He'd be far better off ditching social media for a while. I'm sure the people he meets out in public will be almost unanimously supportive to him. He just needs to stay away from pathetic, cowardly online trolling.
He'll be in for inevitable abuse from opposition fans if he ever does play for us again. That he'll just have to accept and get on with, but to get it from your own supporters is just unacceptable.

Are the errors a consequence of his state of mind given the Kiev situation and him being aware that any issue being magnified. I don't think he can handle it mentally and him being no 2 means we are one injury away from a disaster.Originally posted by Jaco_Pastorious View PostProbably not going to be the opinion of most, but am glad that he still has a bit of fight in him to make a reply back.
After us buying Alisson, it should be pretty obvious to all that he is now our number two keeper, so whilst we cannot control what fans of other clubs say about him, and as such our own support should just take things for what they are.
It is just a couple errors in meaningless pre season games by a guy who will not be our starting keeper come the start of the season.
We have had plenty of other pre season games in the past in which players who would not be starting the season in the first team made mistakes, and we were not climbing over ourselves to stick the knife in.

And last season we were one injury away from Mignolet being our number one, so we have upgraded both our starting and back up keeper slots this summer.
And if we look at our rivals in the league, our level of back up keeper will be as good, if not better, than what they have as back up.
Have no issues with Karius as our number two tbh. The drop off in quality between our number one and number two keepers is not as great as what is there for some of our other positions and would sooner see some of those drop offs sorted than worry about a less urgent issue like a number two goalkeeper.I don't hate people. I just feel better when they aren't around.

Then we better be wetting our beds about Robertson getting injured, or Firmino getting injured, or VVD getting injured as we are just one injury away from having to bring in players that are a big drop off in quality.
Given that outfield players are more likely to get injured it seems odd to be worried about the off chance that a number two goalkeeper might be needed.
And to be fair to Karius, he showed for the most part during the second half of last season that he is a fairly capable keeper. Maybe not top class but certainly good enough to be an EPL level keeper and defo good enough to be a good back up keeper.I don't hate people. I just feel better when they aren't around.

I dont have a problem with this to be honest. When he came in as our number one, he played a big part in us getting to the CL final and CL qualification.Originally posted by Venton View PostMy problem with Karius being our number two is that we are one injury away from him being our number one.
What he needs now is some time out of the spotlight and the bench is a good place for him to start again

Mig was great for Sunderland for that reason.
Yeah you make more saves per game at those clubs, but you also have a good chance of making less saves per goal conceded and getting less clean sheets.
So maybe making more saves boast a keeper's confidence, but there is a good chance that letting in a greater number of goals could have the oppisite effect.
Plus if we ship hm out on loan to say a Sunderland or similar, then we have to go looking for a new number two unless of course people are suggesting we use Mignolet for that role which would be a step down from KariusI don't hate people. I just feel better when they aren't around.

I was a massive advocate of Karius last season and suggested we didn't need a new no1. Then Kiev happened and again I thought if he could get over it he could still be our no1. Chester warm up, Tranmere goal, Dortmund goal - all directly attributed to Karius and magnified to the hilt by a hostile fan base. Talent wise I have no doubt about him but mentally how can it not affect you and this is being shown in his form.Originally posted by Jaco_Pastorious View PostThen we better be wetting our beds about Robertson getting injured, or Firmino getting injured, or VVD getting injured as we are just one injury away from having to bring in players that are a big drop off in quality.

Re Robbo, Bobby & VVD - I know two are defenders but they are less likely to chuck one into the net
- I wonder how the other players feel about this and if they just want all the circus around him to go away.
I think for the good of everyone he needs time out of England.

I was not talking about those three making mistakes. My comment was about if people are so worried about Karius as a number two and us only being one injury away from Karius being in the team, then any of those three are only one injury away from us having to bring their stand ins into the first team, and for me the back ups to those three players are a bigger drop off in quality/reliability than the drop off between our keepers.
Would sooner see Karius needed to cover for an injury than seeing Moreno back in the team for a stretch or be relying on the likes of Solanke for goals.I don't hate people. I just feel better when they aren't around.

Should be banging on the managers door to move on (loan to the continent), but realistically, I fear we won't be able to move on both himself and Mig at this stage.
Looks like he'll be the one sticking around.......to the detriment of his top level career unfortunately. Part of me would love to see him coming on in a big match after Alisson has to go off and pull of some miraculous match-winning save.
Will have to make do with the constant reminders about Kiev during every match in the meantime. Broadcasters might as well setup a permanent camera pointing towards the bench.Last edited by McDermotX; 23-07-18, 12:49 PM."I will make the boys feel your support"

Simply fact is that unless we are looking to bring in a new second choice keeper that is better than both Karius and Mignolet along with being happy to be on the bench, then one of those two have to stay to be our back up keeper.
And I would much sooner have Karius there as our back up for this season than Mignolet.I don't hate people. I just feel better when they aren't around.
