He was said to be fit but not in the sqaud before the game.

He only trained one day last week. As we've seen before, if you miss sessions you miss the match more often that not. Its just Klopp being cautious, long season ahead, no need to risk it with him.

Which is highlighted by Lallana and Mane's ability to win the ball back. The latter winning six tackles and recovering the ball eight times (the joint most on the pitch). We're defending from the front and whilst there is clearly room for improvement in the centre of the park we will defend as a unit with no one midfielder anchoring.

Thinking of Klopp's previous teams (with my limited knowledge of Dortmund) I don't think he ever played with a defensive midfielder in the truest sense.

There is more than one way of winning the ball back which seems to be Klopps ethos hard work, pressing and pressure on players with pace and movement once we've got the ball.

Yep, the obsession with it is a bit weird, we were much better defensively when Can went back there and replaced the "specialist" anyway. Stats back that up and eyes! Not to mention we've also scored the most goals in the league in 2016!! We're doing fine and we'll be fine.

The lack of control in middle it's easy to see why people want someone like that. Still sick that we never went for kante same fee as we're getting for benteke and less wages than him. No brainer

I am not sure if Klopp really believes in controlling the games using Xabi , Mascher style midfielders. It might be something we need to get adjusted to. I have not watched a lot of Dortmund but some of the games in their champions league final appearance run were not too dissimilar to yesterdays game.

He is more Ferguson than Rafa or Mourinho. Rather than customizing a defense to neutralize threats, I think he is all about put enough goal scoring attacking players on the pitch who can press like crazy, whip the crowd into a frenzy and create a mental environment with the crowd and the team feeding off each other. Irrespective of what he might say about the goals conceded I think he loves the chaos. If we win every game 1-0 he might get bored and quit.

I do know he had midfield players like Gundogan, Şahin, Bender(?) at Dortmund but I am not sure if he ever used them the way Rafa used Xabi, Mascherano.
