Burnley were fortunate that Mané got injured late on and we had to change our style, then after conceding an early goal any game plan we had went completely out the window and they were able to fight for their lives with something to defend.Originally posted by TheElephantMan View Post
the Burnley result was frustrating. They had a game plan and it worked, three attacks and they scored twice! It's no good dominating possession if we don't do anything with it, I'm sure this is something Klopp will be working on now. I don't think we underperformed too badly against Burnley, but we lacked a bit of guile when it mattered. I'd say that we've made evident progress since that game, that's not to say we couldn't find ourselves in that situation again. I believe that we have enough on-form attacking talent to break sides down now, as long as two or three of those players are playing well then we should be okay. The game against City will be interesting.
No excuse, we still should have beat them, but all the 'I told you so' comments and subsequent meltdowns were clearly misjudged. Bizarrely, it does look like the manager knows what he's actually doing. If we are all only happy when we are really winning in the end, when your race finishes, what life would that be?

That Burnley game is starting to look like a freak result to be fair. The transformation of the team under Klopp is amazing. Lallana for example is starting to look absolute class and worth every penny.
Henderson is starting to give captains performances and we are starting to look good at the back with Matip, Kalvin and Lovren all looking fantastic. With Gomez set to return Sakho will not be missed.
I can't praise the team and manager enough for the turn around and if we do go on a title run it is going to be a great season. Unlike Rodgers team of 2013/14 we are not relying on one or two players to get the goals as they are coming from all over the team and the defence is much more solid.
Matip looks absolute class and reminds me a lot of Rio Ferdinand. What more can you say about Mane though which hasn't already been said?
I've got to admit after the 2013/14 season I like everyone else thought we would kick on the following season bbutton see what happened and seeing Rodgers treat the CL as nothing more than a inconvenience was infuriating after all the hard work that was put in the season before.
If we get back in the CL next season it's going to be massively different under Klopp.

Originally posted by Lecter View PostMost impressive thing for me today was the pressing and hunting in packs. Klopp is certainly getting us doing this frequently. Over the years we have seen us do this for periods. Rafa managed it and Brendan did but Klopp seems to have us doing this a lot longer without tiring and more consistently
The attacking play today was also impressive particularly the first half. 10 goals wouldn't have flattered us but I thought at times we over cooked things and attempted to get too intricate in and around the box
The hunting in packs was very impressive indeed. Whilst Rafa and Brendan did get us doing something similar for spells, I think there is a marked difference in the aggression with how we do it under Klopp.
There just seems to be a bit more bite now and if the first or second player in the pack misses, the next one in tends to leave a bit on the player with the ball. It really is a joy to watch, and will be a nightmare for a hell of a lot of teams to have to contend with.
The one team in the league that seems to be able to cope fairly well with that sort of hunting in packs being used against them (and not just by us) is Spurs and that is probably because they look to fight fire with fire when a team presses them on the ball.
Another thing that is catching the eye is how much of an improvement we are seeing every time Matip, Wijnaldum, and Mane start. An awful lot of play filters through those guys now, the latter in a more obvious manner and the other two in a more low key but no less important manner.
I still think we need some extra quality in the team, but the way the performances are going pretty much every regular outfield starter is making it difficult for a case to be made to replace them. Our lack of genuine pace outside of Mane is a worry though. He stretches teams so much with that pace and movement and we don't have anyone else in the spot that comes close to being able to offer what he does. Origi is quick but is not the sort of player that brings what Mane does.
Milner I think deserves a hell of a lot of praise since his switch to the LB position. Not only has his play been of a very high order, but he seems to be growing very quickly into being the sort of leader that leads by both example and vocally.I don't hate people. I just feel better when they aren't around.

We did play well against them, but they were able to reverse the press for periods of the game and put us under pressure.
I think that playing against teams that can do this can be very benefical as it gives us the experience of having to compete to ensure that our press is the dominant one.
The Man City games will be interesting for sure as it will be firepower against firepower, but am not so sure about their ability to play their way around a high press as of yet. Maybe they can or maybe they will be able to do so in the future under Pepe, but until they come up against a high press from a team that can also match their attacking threat it is hard to say how they will cope.
One thing I am pretty sure of at the moment about us meeting City is that a very high scoring win for either team would not be a surprise. They are the sort of team that we could just as easily beat by three as we could lose against by three.I don't hate people. I just feel better when they aren't around.
