LONG before Trent Alexander-Arnold was being name-checked by Jurgen Klopp as a potential Liverpool star of the future, the secret was already out.

On page 353 of Steven Gerrard’s autobiography ‘My Story,’ there is a paragraph on the home-grown youngster who has been making waves for quite some time behind the scenes at Anfield.

Gerrard came across Alexander-Arnold, then 16, when working on his Uefa coaching badges at Liverpool’s academy and his commitment to mentioning him in print served to reflect just how big a talent the master perceived the pupil to be.

“Trent Arnold has a terrific chance of making it as a top professional,” wrote Gerrard when putting his book together in early 2015.

“He’s quite leggy but he’s got a lovely frame and seems to have all the attributes you need.

“He has the right attitude and comes from West Derby, home to Melwood. So Trent is another Scouser and apparently, just as I tried to be John Barnes and Steve McMahon, he grew up pretending to be me while playing in the Merseyside parks.

“He can play as a number 6, a holding midfielder, but he’s versatile and I’ve seen him fill various positions. I know England are all over him.”

Why do I get the feeling that Mr Joyce wrote that article as soon as he read the book, and has been diarising squad announcements ever since, excitedly waiting to unleash it on us.
    Oh I don't know.

Im not arsed if we go out tbh, looking at the the semi final dates where we could be playing a city/arsenal and we have united/chelsea the following weekends in the league with no mane and pretty heavy few weeks.

all about the league this season
I think playing full strength teams earlier helped us gel the team we have now. The situation is a bit different and I think Spurs will play a young team too which helps make the shock of the game less for our U23s coming in.

It will be interesting to see what we do up front - we have Sturridge, Ings and Origi kicking their heels a lot at the minute. I see Ings has been promised some part in the game.

I think it would be criminal not to start Origi, he's really suffering from sitting on the bench when he sould be developing his talent. The playing time he's getting now is nowhere near enough, we saw last season how brilliant he can be when given a couple starts in the first team.

This no-Europe thing has kinda done us over, we've got a bunch of great young talents and almost no games to play them in...

        -----------Mignolet----------
        TAA--Matip--Klavan--Moreno
        --Grujic--Lucas--Wijnaldum--
---Ings---Sturridge---Origi--- (I know never gonna happen, although basically all three ned to start tonight)

Ejaria and Stewart to come on later, maybe even Joe Gomez. Is Ojo still injured?

TAA is god, would be great to see him start, the best young right back on the planet, no doubt about that.

I can see Ings being a sub and coming on, otherwise you are bypassing both Origi and Sturridge. I like the team.

Similar teams if this pans out.

Eleven changes, but that still looks like a half decent side. I'm quite looking forward to this.

Good team on paper at least. Sturridge better be ready to rock.
