I agree, love the bloke but this is on him, although Hendo and Klavan were shocking and Clyne and Milner were poor as well.

Surely bringing in Karius was acknowledging a problem and trying to address it, no transfer is a guaranteed success and so far that one hasn't worked out but we're pretty much locked into it now for the season at least. CB Matip was an improvement, Klavan should just have been backup but regardless again that was an attempt to address defensive issues that is still a work in progress unfortunately.

I think a top keeper brings a confidence, organisation and reliability to a defence that we could only benefit from, not to mention the occasional match-winning performance we hardly ever see. Not talking about specifics but if we really want to kick on keeper would still be pretty high on my improvement list.

Think a quality CB alongside a fully fit Matip for an extended run would make a world of difference.
      Absolutely

And that bit about how ball playing centre backs would again bring us back to the two we have...Matip and Sakho. Seems to me that if we are not going to play Sakho, then we need to have another centre back who has the ability to bring the ball out from the back and who can get it quickly to the feet of the midfielders, which seems to be important to how we play, otherwise we have nobody to do so when Matip is out/injured
Sakho out - Matip partner in seems the way we're going for right or wrong, just it'll probably be in the summer.

The other thing that seems to be a tad glaring is our lack of pace with Mane away. Would love to see us bring in someone who can add a similar sort of threat
Yup, pace and directness. Such a shame we don't have the old Sturridge or maybe we could have coped better and slightly changed the system but as it is we do need another attacking threat with a bit of zing about their play.

Agree with the pace and directness too, we need someone of a similar ilk as Mane, preferable someone who is not going to AFCON every two years.

It's the hope that gets you in the end, isn't it?
          Never knowingly optimistic

Origi is the only other attacking player with pace, he's not the same time of player obviously, but I would prefer to see a front 3 (while Mane is away) of Coutinho, Firmino and Origi with Lallana in midfield
The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

Pace doesn't get you anywhere when teams park the bus. Quickness & tempo in our passing does. At 2-2, we lost our composure and tried too hard to equalise straight away. We should have kept the ball for a few minutes, then increased the tempo bit by bit. This is the thing we're lacking at the moment and the likes of Chelsea, Spurs and Arsenal have in abundance.
              Are we winning?

                We were unlucky that's why.

We had about 25 'opportunities' and the ball never ran the way it did for them in their 3 or 4.

Third goal was ****ing sickening because we would have won at 2-2.

Bringing in a novice keeper who has had his confidence shot to pieces isn't a good thing to do,And i doubt very much Mignolet was bothered by Karius signing....Have to bring in quality at the very least.

Pace is essential in modern football absolutely essential. We dont have enough players woth pace

We do have players who can pass the ball round quickly and at a high tempo but at times you need pace to accelerate away from players when you have the ball

First half was a throwback to Brendan football going side to side at a snails pace at times we needed to switch the play quickly but instead of 1 or 2 direct incisive passes we were taking 5 or 6 passes to go across the pitch by which time it needed to be switched back

Second half we moved the ball a little quicker and the two times we scored were when we hit more incisive balls to our wide men

Can and for me Wijnaldum slow the play and Hendersons passing was off also today

Defensively we were a shambles and basically gifted them 2 goals through school boy mistakes and the 2nd we should have dealt with better

There's been a notable drop off for me in pressing and tempo in our play. Some of that is down to tactics the opposition is employing but some is definitely self inflicted

Just wanted to add the referee was abysmal.

There was 2 times he blew up for a foul when we had clear advantage

Never rated him as a referee.

The standard of refereeing is atrocious in this league
