Football as fan should be purely about trying to win things. You certainly have no given right to, nor will you always be able to, but the main goal should always be lifting some silverware. Getting close can be fun, it can be heartbreaking, but making up the numbers is not what being a Liverpool fan has ever been about.
Is it small time? We won't be winning things every season and our aim is to eventually be in a position to win the best things (Premier League and Champions League). Until we are, I will celebrate progress rather than lament our lack of success and that includes denying our rivals because of where our progress has taken us to.

Assuming we resume normal service in the league, we should be in the CL next season and some of our rivals won't. That's worth celebrating!

Yes it is. And the next step would be to buy some real quality players so that we can push on on multiple fronts next season. E.g. By competitive in the CL & either win the league or be right in it till the end. That would be our next realistic aim imo.

Getting champions league won't get us much better players. It's a fallacy. Money gets you better players. We don't have a lot and won't spend on wages. Your thinking is all 2010 I'm afraid. The game has moved on.

More games will mean it will be even harder to maintain the intensity. We would need another 5 or 6 top players and they'd all need to hit the ground running. That's the reality. I'd say it's unlikely. Our best bet of a title tilt is finishing 5th or 6th. Get Europa and play the kids. If we get CL then we would have to go full strength.

I'm fairly sure I saw a graphic recently that we are among the top 10 or so revenue generating clubs in the world and spend approximately 70% of our expenditure on wages so to say we don't have it and won't spend it on wages would appear far from accurate.

That's right up to a point. It would get us much better quality players than if we weren't in it, just not necessarily the very best (and therefore most expensive).

I disagree. I'm not saying the very top notch +£50m type signings but the combination of CL football & working with Klopp should get us decent talent. Of course we won't be spending United type wages any time soon so the mercenary type signings will remain out of sight but I doubt Klopp would sign any like that anyway.

And why would we want the Europa anyway? Playing the kids still means that some of the seniors will be involved & it means Klopp spending less time on the training pitch with the team.

OK we can compete on wages with our rivals. Once we get top 4, the best will be busting out moves to arrive. I'm sure that's what happened last time. Or is klopp the one the mercenaries will be drawn to this time round like moths to an outside light.

And your thinking is slightly flawed and clouded by frustration I think.

Money is not an issue for us but the owners have decided to run this club sustainably with a structure for targeting younger players and with a manager who can develop them. It's long term.

We have overpaid and spent a lot of money before and it hasn't got us closer to what we want.
                      Are we winning?

Anyone who can't see the progress we are making and isn't excited about the next few years under Klopp expects too much. We have only finished in the top 4 once in the past 8 years or so!

I don't think even if we get in the champs league spots that we can attract the highest calibre of player but it's a start and something to build on over the next few years. Although it doesn't guarantee you getting the better players, it certainly helps that pull ... as well as us having more money.

At the moment I would take it over both domestic cups combined, there is a bigger picture and we have to start showing potential players, that LFC is a club that is a banker to get into the champs league places every year & hallenege for honours. Until you can almost guarantee a top player that this club will challenge on all fronts, every season .... you best players will never come here IMO.

Unfortunately we are a longer way, away from that but we are building. We have a great brand, massive fanbase, can pay very good wages, improved stadium revenue, we are better commercially, have a top manager & some excellent players to build on. IMO we just need that 4th spot to get the ball rolling, it has to happen this season.

It's one thing getting in the CL but staying there is going to be bloody difficult with the league the way it is.

I watched the game against Middlesbrough this morning. Our performance in the second half was outstanding. Complete control from the beginning, quick passing and intensity in the right areas and Boro just couldn't live with us. If we get back to that we'll be on our way again.
