Very much so. It's not a simple binary reasoning about having the players or not having the players, we are playing poorly, and more worryingly, not altering our tactics or approach to teams of limited resources.
We've now seen the result of playing severely weakened sides, and treating the cups arrogantly IMO. There's been no upside or signs of arresting the slump we've found ourselves in, and increasingly worrying, stubborn signs from the bench.
Worst of all, our opposition knows we're not changing it up and are factoring that in, and in some recent cases, actually controlling the game with 30% of the ball.

We're continually banging our head against the same bloodied mark on the wall.

I know 442 is sooooo yesterday but we have the personnel for that, & in fact it would play to Sturidge strengths. I'd suggest ditching the attacking full back scenario which leaves us wide open for counter attacking.

      Something like this maybe

      Mig

      Clyne Matip Lovren Milner

      Mane Wiji/Lallana Hendo Coutinho

      Origi/ Firmino. Sturidge

      I'd call it Plan B

Don't think the club can compete for the best personnel.

Don't need the best just need more than we have now

It's whether Klopp and FSG are prepared to buy them

System is not the problem. Mentality is. We have a lot of quality players who should have been doing far better than they've shown of late. We are not wide open all game. We do let in soft goals but it's not because of the wide full backs. At our best it's very difficult to even have a shot at our goal. It's showing this consistently which is.
              Are we winning?

I think the system is the problem if it isn't working (which it evidently isn't) and once that starts to happen then confidence or mentality or whatever you want to call it takes a dip.
