              ****ing hell, that night.

I had a brilliant evening; went to see REM with a hot blonde I'd recently started dating, avoided the score (considerably easier in those days) then rolled back in opened a beer, pressed play on the video recorder and settled down to watch.

With hindsight I really should have paid more attention to the look on my house mates face when I'd arrived back but at the time anything other than us lifting the trophy was improbable bordering on impossible.

I was in the Kop that night. You could have heard a pin drop after their second. It had been an emotional season with Hillsborough about 6 weeks earlier.

It was a truly monumental effort by the team that season, playing catch up and IIRC we played and thrashed West Ham a few days before. Heartbreaking night, just wasn't meant to be, still hurts.....

I was only ten but I can remember it like it was yesterday. Back then obviously I didn't realise the importance of the game.

The reason it was so painful was because it was the best Liverpool team ever. Strange thing to say without Dalglish and Rush but there it is. Not being in Europe to be lifting more European Cups added to the frustrations. That team deserved the double (heck treble) more than any other.

The silver lining is any disappointments now can be salved by comparing it to 89. Not finishing 4th on Sunday probably won't even register, albeit will be gutting.

                        You're 38?!
I saw a dead fish on the pavement and thought "what did you expect?"

Haha. Me and my Red mates were sat at my mates house crying at full time, and the lad's Dad whose house we were at, posh and not remotely into football, came in taking the piss and laughing his head off and took photos of all us all crying.
Thanks very much for being ‘This Mornings’ Farmer’

37, but I'll be 38 this year. Was born in 79.

I was in the Kemlyn that night & right in line with that **** Thomas when he scored....... At full time i remember the KOP gave Arsenal a great reception, even though we lost the title.

Didn't stay for the trophy presentation, had longest,& quietest bus ride back to the city centre, then straighht back to the hotel (Adelphi that night). I lived in brighton at the time & was on the 1st train back in the morning, with a train full of joyous Arse fans. ...

We got royally stitched up by the FA after Hilsborough, having to play 6 games in 18 days; makes me laugh when the demented one now bitches about too many games.

So missing out on top 4 will be disappointing, but nowhere near as bad as that night

i was deep in the Irish countryside fishing with a couple of mates who happened to be everton fans.
we found our way into a small pub in a village [possibly athlone?] that was really someones back room with a telly in it.

that night i found out what bitter blue nose really meant
