A left back who can also use his right foot when needed would be a useful addition.

I don’t think Robbo is done and there is an expected level of hyperbole online after a bad game where somebody has to be hung out to dry with the rest of their career written off. But, it was obviously a very poor game (or 20 mins) from him. As Slot said was he affected by that early injury (which was defo a borderline red) possibly.
The thing with Robbo 2.0 is that he can’t play every game any more and with Tsmikas being injured he has had to. With Konate and Bradley also being injured there is basically nobody to rotate with.
We do need to reinforce in this position and have done for a while. I reckon Robbo has a season or two left at the top, but desperately needs his game time managed.
Our defence rotating the two LBs and with Konate fit was barely letting a goal in through the early part of the season.Modifying post.

I think it is not so much a case of Robertson being done, but rather he is probably at the point Hendserson was at the season before his form fell off a cliff.
As you say we need to reinforce at LB, but personally I think a new LB needs to be coming in as the new starter that gets 35 to 45 games a season in all comps and whichever of Robertson or Tsimi stays then gets 10 to 15 starts plus whatever sub appearances are going.
The guy I would be after is the one that looked nailed on for Real for months and now that Real move looks a bit shakier. Alphonso Davies.
If TAA goes then wages for Davies becomes less of an issue imo, plus he is possibly the best LB in the game right now and only 23 years of age.
Three or four other good young left backs out there if Davies was going elsewhere, but given Davies can move for free this summer and what with him being as good as he is, it seems a no brainer to at least throw our hat into the ring for him.Last edited by Doc_Piptorious; 15-12-24, 01:05 PM.I don't hate people. It was interesting reading some comments from Madrid and Canadian fans on Davies - I really like him when I’ve seen him (only very limited CL matches) but there was a majority saying his end product is poor for how often he gets into those advanced spotsOriginally posted by Doc_Piptorious View PostI think it is not so much a case of Robertson being done, but rather he is probably at the point Hendserson was at the season before his form fell off a cliff.

So I wonder if there is a question over that, as well as the much bigger one of whether he would want to join us

Tbh I like him due to how easily he gets back to snuff out attacks when his starting position in a phase of play might be by the other team's 18 yard box
The speed he moves at to successfully chase a player down despite starting off maybe 15 to 20 yards out of position is just so impressive. The guy is like a cheat code at left back. Have rarely seen a player so well equipped to gamble on giving opposing wingers a big head start.
The other thing I like about him is that he is a very good recycler of the ball in the middle third and in the final third. Carries the ball forward very well and his numbers for successful progressive passes in the other team's half is very high.
He himself is not a big goal or assist getter, but he plays the pass that leads to the assist a hell of a lot of times and also plays the pass that leads to chancce creation a lot.
For me he is to the left back position what Gravenberch is proving to be in our 6 position. In that he is not a pure example of the position most associated with him, but rather a guy who excels in 2 or three positions over the course of a game thanks to movement, skills and reading of the game.
I also have a gut feeling that Real will only get one of him or TAA. So as long as we get ( or keep) the other one I would be happy with that.I don't hate people. I just feel better when they aren't around.

My thinking being if our current LB, who was the best in the world in that position, is on the wane, then why not try to replace him with the current (imo) best in the position.I don't hate people. I just feel better when they aren't around.

I find that statement unbelievable, we are overall the most successful club in the most competitive league in the world who in the last 7-8 years have been challenging for the biggest trophies yet we still don’t have that ‘Pull’ ….madnessOriginally posted by Scratch View PostCos we don't have that sort of pull, or money. We need to find another uncut gem like Robbo, then craft him into the world's greatest.

It's true though. We've always had that problem, internationally at least. That's why we typically buy from mid table teams and almost double players wages. Same was true of our main target this summer, Zubimendi.Originally posted by Jas View PostI find that statement unbelievable, we are overall the most successful club in the most competitive league in the world who in the last 7-8 years have been challenging for the biggest trophies yet we still don’t have that ‘Pull’ ….madness
Benitez talked about it on his episode on the overlap. Issues such as entourage/family influences, lack of international airport, weather, etc.

I think we saw it with both Hendo and Milner. One season they are fine, then the next... Hendo couldnt run any more, and Milners legs couldnt move quick enough to make a pass or a tackle. I dont think he is there yet, but having to play every game every year at "Robbo" speed probably isnt going to prolong his career. If we do bring someone in, then its a case of do we get rid of Robbo or Timmy.
THe problem is he is making one massive error most games. Perphaps one game a week will leave him with more energy, but it doesnt cover the fact that we do need a top quality replacement now.
I remember when we first bought him Klopp didnt play him for the first few months, and we were like... "he must be crap then". Learnt not to underestimate him He still hasd experience which is very important for big games... and we are going to have a lot of those this seasonIn the beginning, Fowler created the Heaven and the Earth.
