Milner did a good enough job but we definitely need a proper left footed fb. What to do with Milner now? He's a brilliant professional but I fear he will be used as a utility player filling in where gaps occur.

I reckon Andy will be the next Stig Inge Bjørnebye. What a cross he had on him.

Milner will remain first choice LB for now.

              Scudded him.

                Welcome to LFC

I think he is a decent player, for me at the moment he is a squad player, close to Milner with the level he is currently at but should be looking to take his chance and establish himself as first choice. IMO that is what he should be looking to do this season.

I'm made up we have a left footed left back. Milner was excellent up until around December last year and it must have been difficult for him playing there. Teams sussed how to play against him and then it went totally down hill from then on wards.

The biggest problem from Milner was his inability to penetrate up the left hand side, teams knew that all our attacks were coming down the right and that made our play more one dimensional (especially when Mane was away) They knew they didn't have to help the right back defend and could use that extra man else where on the pitch when attacking and also be more solid when defending as it was only right or centre where we attacked.

Andrew Robertson looks great going forward and seems to have the pace to run back (Not jog ala Moreno), the wider our shape is when attacking teams the more space our front 4 have to get in behind. Moreno and Coutinho's goal yesterday was a perfect example, that overlapping run took the full backs attention, Coutinho slots inside and scores, winner winner for me.

hopefully by the later parts of the season robertson and alexander will be our first choice full backs.

clyne has been an excellent defender and sometimes struggled to add any width or overlap option on the right. he did have a few better games with mane before afcon, but im not sure he will keep taa out.

i cant see us keeping milner or clyne beyond this year.
this means we would then be looking for additional cover for both our full backs.
removing all the weak links makes us stronger

I think that Clyne is under-rated, I think he tired last season because the lack of cover meant that he played almost every game. TAA's development means that TAA can at least play the cup games and maybe start the odd PL game to allow Clyne to remain fresh. If TAA can get into a position to challenge Clyne for a regular spot in the side even better, but either way I would hope to see more from Clyne this year.

Wasn't Clyne one of the highest full back chance creators in the league last season?

Most likely, he will start more than not & will have Mane & Coutinho in front of him interacting & overlapping in positions, just looking forwards to seeing how it works out for him!

I seen something earlier that I think said the three highest in the league in terms of chances created were:

                              Milner-57
                              Baines-46
                              Clyne-45

I imagine a lot of Baines' cames from set-pieces too.
