We've been here many times before. When we win it's great and when we lose it's awful tempered just a little bit by the gobsmacked caterwauling by those who predicted we'd win by 6-0. Only by a little bit though.

        Milner benched or in midfield?
If we are all only happy when we are really winning in the end, when your race finishes, what life would that be?

Hopefully benched, I'm not sure he can play in a midfield role anymore, well at least not in game we need to break teams down. He's still capable at left back, could probably cover right back and play CM in the big games where we need energy and pressing.

Aye, I don't mind him covering in midfield occasionally if it comes to it, but think I'll be a bit disappointed in we start the season with him in that position.

Can't imagine why he'd be picked over Can, Henderson or Wijnaldum.

Who are we missing? Lallana, Coutinho, Clyne, Sturridge

                So a side of
Mignolet; TAA, Matip, Lovren, Moreno; Henderson, Can, Wijnaldum; Mane, Firmino, Salah?

If Henderson isn't passed fit maybe. I'd be surprised if he doesn't start for us, so if it's not at LB, unfortunately it will have to be in midfield. Hopefully I'm wrong.

There's not a lot in it really imo.

Coutinho in that forward role may be slightly better than Salah but he was also very inconsistent at times.

Lallana on his day is better than Can too I suppose

Matip is way better than Klavan

TAA & Clyne we could debate all day but imo TAA offers more going forward & Clyne the better defender. Against Watford I'm hoping we need TAA's offensive game more than his defensive game.

Moreno appears to be in better form at present than at any time last season so that's an improvement too.

I'll stick my head out and say that maybe we are better in the wide areas with Salah inplace of Phil, but it's in the middle where I thought he might be more influential.
                        * The above is posted in my opinion. Feel free to disagree.

I agree with you but Phil was always capable of the sublime from anywhere on the pitch. So as a whole we are weaker without Phil even though in the corresponding match he wasn't played in his key position.

Assuming a side of (almost picks itself)

                              Mignolet
                              TAA Matip Lovren Moreno
                              Henderson Can Wijnaldum
                              Mane Firmino Salah

                              Subs
Karius, Klavan, Robertson, Milner, Grujic, Solanke, Origi

That looks a strong side but the bench isn't that strong, there are very few players on there that you would say could expect to be in starting 11, for me that is a concern about the squad depth and the fact that we haven't really signed enough players, ok there are a few players out at the moment (Coutinho, Lallana, Sturridge, Clyne) but the squad needs to be able to cope with these problems. We really need to bring in a couple more players.

Yup. Players is the bare minimum needed, first choice CB and a squad (preferably first but looking unlikely) midfielder.

Anyway that line up looks good to me, I'd drop Origi completely and add Woodburn to the bench though but I can see Origi being given a few chances yet.
