He needs one of those goals to kick on or a string of tap ins.

Not sure why he's getting criticised for last night, he had no midfielders near him and the "service" was a few waist height balls pumped up to him. What's he meant to do with that?! Chelsea was a fairer criticism as he was a bit wasteful with a couple of shots and putting Firmino in but last night wasn't on him at all.

Yeah, there seems to be a desperation to find a deeper issue with last nights result.
I dont think we can expect Salah to carry us as often as he did last season, his levels may have lowered a bit (still three goals in however many games isnt exactlly a disaster), but then he was scoring nearly every game last season.
We are always looking for parallels with City, well they lost a few games in the CL group stages last season. That was a tough game last night, until performances like that become a pattern I think we just write it off.Modifying post.

unfortunately this is the truth from what we have seen from him so far this season. At least the effort is still there.
In saying that he is being doubled up on alot and targeted so obviously more difficult but he is way out of form, no denying it.Last edited by danperkins; 04-10-18, 12:29 PM.

Not in anyway suggesting he was on his game, or that giving him the hook was the wrong move, but he was far better in the Chelsea game (with the annoying caveat that his final ball, pass, shot was dreadful) than last night.
Was actively getting involved, making the runs, and generally being a problem in that game - albeit still ineffectively in the end of course.
Last night though, nothing was really working for him, little in the way of support from midfield or Bobby etc, control was off, dithering on the ball etc etc...........added to the fact the Koulibaly was enjoying himself, with himself on a bleeding yellow for a large portion of the match as well.
He's gonna come good at some point, which you'd hope would be on Sunday, but he certainly aint all smiles right now, even with a few goals under his belt."I will make the boys feel your support"

This time last season (After 7 league games, 2 CL group stage games, and one league cup game) he had four goals to his game. This season he has three afer the same number of games.
He did get questioned a lot during the early stages of last season about his finishing and decision making etc.
He has not started this season well by the standards he set himself for three quarters of last season, but he is more or less matching how he started last season, and he still looks, to me anyway, a player that is getting into the right positions a lot but who is being double marked or man marked more often than last season and/or is just a fraction too early or a fraction too late in taking shots or making runs so far.
May well be some issues with that injury and the off the pitch stuff playing on his mind as well, but I think he is just a scruffy goal or two away from his confidence rising and the goal rate going up.
Plus last night he was feeding on scraps at the best of times. Another thing last night was Koulibaly having a fantastic game against him and our other attackers. Sometimes we need to give credit to the other team for being good enough to make us look bad rather than it being all down to our players being sub parLast edited by Doc_Piptorious; 04-10-18, 12:48 PM.I don't hate people. He had 6 goals at same point last season. Or 5 if you discount the 1 in CL qualifiers. It was 4 from 7 in the league, 1 from 2 in CL group stage..

Ahh yes I had left out a goal against Arsenal. But it is still not a massive difference in his return. I think we just got used to the form he was in as the season ended and expected/hoped he would start this season the same way.
Am only counting the league games, league cup game and CL group stages so that it is the same number of games. If he scores one goal against City then he is back on par with where he was at that point last season so fine margins in terms of his goal return this season.
Said it in the Napoli match thread, but if we get a good result on Sunday (and if Salah notches as icing on the cake) then things go back to looking very good again.I don't hate people. I just feel better when they aren't around.

think he looks mentally drained more than any physical issues.
what a mad year he's had from average footballer to huge global superstar, all the nonsense with Egypt and CL final, all the pressure to live up to last season, he cant even go the mosque in peace anymore.
a couple of goals will hopefully lift some of the pressure.
We have two 11 day breaks from league games in Jan, hopefully easy FA cup ties, and we can let him and a few others have a mid season break
