In life, on and off line, you come across people who just grind your gears. For whatever reason. People are annoying. Am I a gear grinder? Indisputably. We probably all are to an extent. It's life. We're never all gonna be friends. That, to me is fine.

In most situations, you engineer your life to spend less time with people you don't get on with and more time with people who you do get on with.

Online, it's not always so easy.

Why don't you put people on ignore? People ask. Well you can do that, but when the people you're ignoring have a high proportion of posts in a thread (or indeed forum), it kinda ends up rendering the whole experience, well, not very good. We're essentially a smallish community here, things generally don't yet lost in a sea of posts. They get amplified.

Match threads, for example... In a typical thread, players will get called a disgrace, horrendous, ****e, appalling and god knows what else, the minute they misplace a pass or the team starts to stutter. This often happens during a lull in a game where we've eventually ended up scoring a hatful. I get the overreactions in the heat of the moment, but reading it week after week is not something I'm interested in.

So I often find that for an easier life, it's better just to avoid certain threads or even forums altogether. It's a simple solution and everyone's sort of happy.

Yesterday, my reasons for generally avoiding match threads came up, and I answered the question honestly. Nobody got called a cunt, or any other name. But my response was insulting.

Was I being a **** about it? Yes.

            Should I apologise? Yes.

So here we have it. Sorry Dan.

This is the last I'm gonna say on the matter, so let's get back to grinding each other's gears, accepting that we don't have to get on with each other, and doing what we generally do best - complaining about something or other.
I don't see a reason to apologise. I have no issues with Dan so have a different opinion of him but you refrained from being rude or insulting and you only told the truth. Why the need to apologise?

I'm almost certain the same ****e happened at the last International break as well. It's like a well-oiled news content strategy of rehashing old articles and loanee reviews when there's no football on, only EST style.

Also, takes a man to apologise for crossing a line.

I appreciate the apology dom although you didn't have to, I didn't take offence and have had much worse levelled at me by guys who thankfully have gone now. This site is a breeze for me these days, all good folk. We are never going to see eye to eye, we have different opinions on seemingly everything and different ways of going about doing things.... and you know what that is absolutely fine IMO each to their own. Me personally I just don't really get annoyed or bothered about what others post, we are all different and I just see it for the most part as each to their own, few exceptions but generally I just doesn't bother me. I may not agree with it and will have banter or back and forth but that's as far as it goes for me. Happy to draw a line under it and get back to the norm of our usual ways

As regards match threads, going to football games or watching in pub in general. For me, being a football fan is an irrational, hyperbolic, fickle, emotional, highly charged experience and I love it that way. It's a mess of emotions and IMO that is exactly the way it should be. Said before, I do not care what people post in match threads, we all say stupid **** or say things we don't mean in the heat of the moment that post match we may think were ridiculous, it is all part of getting carried away. I just genuinely don't see a problem with it at all, in fact i really like it. I like people going crazy during a game of football, it's fun, it's a time out from life. It's not serious, for me age, job, character, intelligence etc goes completely out the window when it comes to the game of football and I wouldn't change that for the world.

if you cant go ape**** at a bad pass or jizz over an amazing through ball then you are an emotional desert and not a real football fan. that boils over in the match threads because its an instantaneous response with little time to consider, so to get slated by some soulless creep for over exuberance only shows them up for the whinging old git they are. whoever they are.
