That's completely irrelevantOriginally posted by kev776 View PostHe told the truth, no abuse, just reality.
That the words are written on a forum rather than spoken directly to someone shouldn't dilute their impact
Anyway. This is Mo's thread
Mo

I saw a dead fish on the pavement and thought "what did you expect?"

Suarez, Fowler, Owen, Aguero, Van Nistelrooy, Cole, Yorke, Cantona, Rooney, Drogba, Bergkamp, Henry, Wright, Shearer, Ferdinand, Zola, JFH, Kane.
The record for goals scored in a PL season is 31. Salah is 3 goals shy of that record. I have highlighted some of the best players the PL has ever seen and none of them could achieve what Salah is on course to do this season. He may even beat the record for a 42 game season. Even ignoring he isn't a striker, the fact he doesn't hit pens or free-kicks (until recently) makes it all the more remarkable. As is the fact that it's his first season for us and he joined a team many thought weren't even capable of finishing top 4.
I was watching a programme earlier when it was nonchalantly mentioned that he was three short of that record. There was no fanfare about it, just matter of fact, as if this sort of thing happens all the time. TBF, we all do it. We actually expect him to score every game and when he does it's no big deal.
I wouldn't say we take him for granted, but are we all guilty of underplaying exactly what Mo Salah is achieving this year? What he is doing is virtually unprecedented and never seen before in PL era (any era possibly?). The fact we are even debating if he's worthy of POTY is ridiculous.
I'm not sure why I mentioned this other than I didn't want to join the Dan Perkins discussion and was I surprised to hear these stats earlier. I hope I haven't scudded him, but for the sake of Mo we really need to add No.6 to the record books to ensure he gets some of the recognition he more than deserves. If we are all only happy when we are really winning in the end, when your race finishes, what life would that be?

Compare that with the massive wankfests over Vardy's consecutive scoring record. He was rightly lauded as it's a great achievement but Salah's record should (from a media perspective) be a bigger thing and certainly worthy of more hype and fanfare.Originally posted by RedReet View PostSuarez, Fowler, Owen, Aguero, Van Nistelrooy, Cole, Yorke, Cantona, Rooney, Drogba, Bergkamp, Henry, Wright, Shearer, Ferdinand, Zola, JFH, Kane.

Conversely, I'm happy he's not because he can focus and bask in the glory at season's end.
Can you imagine if we loaded the goalposts with fireworks which went off to spell "New PL Scoring Record!" when his 32nd goal goes in?

Good circuit breaker mate. Dan & pRik (the p is silent) seem to have put their handbags away.
Earlier on in the thread people were discussing whether Mo should be considered world class or not. Personally I think he has moved beyond that as he's well on his way to becoming a dead-set ****ing legend."If Ritchie Blackmore fell into a vat of ****, he'd turn out to be wearing a rubber suit." - Ronnie James Dio

Big season for Mo next year, so much expectation and pressure to get near to this seasons levels. IMO you have to do it for more than one season to be considered world class, he is putting is world class performances this season though no doubts but maybe to be considered a 'world class' footballer it might have to be over a more sustained period.
Magnificent player though.Last edited by danperkins; 23-03-18, 02:39 PM.
