Yeah his shooting boots may have gone to ****, but he's threading some very nice passes through. Maybe knowing he hasn't got the power in his shots anymore is making him look for other players a bit more.

Exactly, it still boggles me that we agreed on that kind of weekly wage with him rather than have it performance-related last year!Originally posted by Norbs View PostYou don't need to pay 350k a week for the sort of player he's becoming, that's part of the issue, IMONope, don't need anger management, you just need to stop pissing me off!

I think that was the summer after the quadruple chasing season, and we sold Mane to Bayern.Originally posted by Norbs View PostYou don't need to pay 350k a week for the sort of player he's becoming, that's part of the issue, IMO
I think that was where we had Firmino's contract running down too, and we were all deliberating if we should renew one, sell one, and allow one to leave for free in 2023.
If I recall, Salah's original contract had performance bonuses, which he was hitting, so he was making £350k a week anyway. It was just his basic salary was lower. His new contract was adjusted, meaning his basic salary was £350k p/w, so he wasn't relying on hitting performance targets to make it.
It's not ideal, but I don't think there's much else we could've done.

Is this why he is now the master of assists, cos he doesn't need to score goals to boost his salary?Originally posted by Phoenix07 View PostI think that was the summer after the quadruple chasing season, and we sold Mane to Bayern.

I think it's fair to Mo, and so does Sadio ManeOriginally posted by Cerbie View PostThat's not really fair to Mo, he was 19:12 - goals:assists last season. He presses well and has the stamina to be part of a high workrate midfield.
Against low-block teams his through balls or shots from distance might work better than trying to dribble through 3 or 4 defenders from the right.
If we persist with inverting Trent, then bringing Gomez into a LCB with Virgil and Konate would mean we can play 3-5-2 with Mo as a false 9. 3-2-5 if we want to overload defences or 4-5-1 if we are on the back foot or are defending a one goal advantage against the stronger teams.
For me, he's not the man for that job.

That's 9 or 10 consecutive matches he's had a goal involvement now.
People keep saying that he can easily be replaced or we can get someone else to do what he does on a fraction of his wages, but who are these players? If we are all only happy when we are really winning in the end, when your race finishes, what life would that be?
