I think that was the summer after the quadruple chasing season, and we sold Mane to Bayern.

I think that was where we had Firmino's contract running down too, and we were all deliberating if we should renew one, sell one, and allow one to leave for free in 2023.

If I recall, Salah's original contract had performance bonuses, which he was hitting, so he was making £350k a week anyway. It was just his basic salary was lower. His new contract was adjusted, meaning his basic salary was £350k p/w, so he wasn't relying on hitting performance targets to make it.

It's not ideal, but I don't think there's much else we could've done.

That's not really fair to Mo, he was 19:12 - goals:assists last season. He presses well and has the stamina to be part of a high workrate midfield.

Against low-block teams his through balls or shots from distance might work better than trying to dribble through 3 or 4 defenders from the right.

If we persist with inverting Trent, then bringing Gomez into a LCB with Virgil and Konate would mean we can play 3-5-2 with Mo as a false 9. 3-2-5 if we want to overload defences or 4-5-1 if we are on the back foot or are defending a one goal advantage against the stronger teams.

I think it's fair to Mo, and so does Sadio Mane

Let's say Salah does go in the next few days, I have to say, at least from the outside looking in, he's behaved impeccably. He's probably aware of his legacy, and not wanting to tarnish it, and he's just knuckled down, and got on with things.

I reckon he's happy enough to stay, hence not kicking up a fuss about it, but if the club receive an offer they feel that they cannot refuse, he would consider the move (not 100% he'd make it, I feel he still thinks he can win bigger trophies with a club in Europe).
