I wonder if there becomes a point where we don't want to sell and Mo doesn't want to go however they offer so much it can't be turned down.

If Mo decides he does not want to move, then they can offer as much as they like. He can just sit on his contract.

He could probably make even more money by seeing out his contract. The transfer fee, or a fee that is a good chunk of it, it would cost to buy him under contract would possibly become his signing on fee.

I think we still get 200m next summer. He’ll play till he is 36/37. If Kane gets 100m for one year left from tight Germans then they can pay double. Especially if he does what he does this season.

The problem we have for any player coming in is the weight of expectation.

A line of Rush Aldridge Fowler Owen Torres Suarez and Salah (and we can chuck in Mane and Sturridge who both had amazing stats)... We thought Torres would be impossible to replace, but the numbers got better with Suarez, and then with Salah even higher. We always get to a point where we think its impossible to get someone in as good (or better). Our streak will have to dry up at some point.
You don’t replace an all time great Ruth one player - when we’ve done it right in the past we’ve used to money to strengthen the team as a whole:

Keegan - Kenny, Souness and Hansen
Rush - Barnes, Beardsley and Houghton (Aldo bought before but I think he should be included)
Phil C - Ali and VVD

You have to replace his output across the team, buy a stellar CB, DM and a hood right winger and we are golden

We must be getting close to that if it’s currently £215m!

It’s definitely heading into fairly unchartered waters transfer wise. The financial power on display here is very ominous.

That would've been £12m and a case of Flor de Cana for you, Bob

I suspect they want the kudos of paying a world record fee for the best Muslim player in the world.

We can ge that in January or May…
We are here for a good time not a long time....

I don't see it happening in Jan to be honest.

Would totally disrupt our season, and unlike, say Coutinho, Mo isn't agitating for a move. I also recognise that he is a top level player still at the peak of his powers - I suspect he wants to keep testing himself. I just am not so sure this will happen, much the same as with Mbappe who also clearly didnt fancy going to play in a substandard league I think Salah believes he has a lot to offer at elite level. He is not mid late late 30's like Ronaldo or Messi. We will see.

Think you're right about it being a good time to sell him then but will £100m buy an elite replacement next summer? Not the way prices are heading...

£75m buys you potential in the striker department. It's madness

Who says it will be 100m though.

A league in a muslim country, a mega wealthy country where big fees on things are often seen as proof of status, wanting to buy the most high profile muslim player in the sport and that playter still being world class.

If Harry Kane with a year left on his contract goes to a club with less resources for 100m, then a world class player like Mo who would also be an icon in Saudi would go for a lot more imo.

Mo with any length left on his contract goes for far more than Kane in my eyes once the Saudi league/state is involved.

Also think that being knocked back by the club will only see the bids get bigger and bigger as the months roll on.

Not that I particularly want to see Mo go and especially to a state owned club, however were he to go for what I think he would fetch, that money brings in at least two if not three players ready to go straight into the first team.

You never know though, there are lots of different circumstances. MacAllister was hot property this summer and we paid about half of what people were expecting his value to be. Release clauses, players with a year on their contracts, well scouted gems, it can all make a big difference.

Oh yes, it might well be a money no object scenario, which would be marvellous. I was just replying to Charly's suggestion that £100m would get an elite striker next year. I think it may well take a bit more than that.

In fact, even if we sold Salah for £215m now who's to say that by the time we get around to spending the dough a Maupay might cost you £150m? Okay, that might be wildly inflationary but you see what I mean...
