Just try watching a game with your eyes. Peak salah rarely passed and the match threads were full of people complaining how often he went it alone.

I also think assists can be split into two columns too. There's a difference beating a player and laying it across for a tap in and the ball bouncing off someone into a players path. That's not a dig a mo. It's the way people now view football. I just think stats can be shown to be many things. Goals are definitive whereas assists are/can be subjective imo.

I think his very ignorant beef was that in his eyes Salah only piped up when it's in his interest.. I.e where was he when Ukraine kids getting bombed.

I do watch with my eyes. The 'selfish' Salah **** doesn't pass the eye test for me either.

If Salah passes 5 times and shoots twice, it'll be the 2 shots that people obsess over and the attempts play a team mate in get completely ignored.

I dont see the ball inadvertently bouncing off Salah often at all either. I do see him deliberately regularly playing in his teammates though.

You don't get assists/passes/chances created numbers as consistently high as his, season after aeason, by accident.

He’s not peak Salah for sure. But, he is still contributing more than almost any other player in his position in the League. His assists and chances created tend to be impressive through balls, but, stats are stats they don’t affect what happens on the pitch - only helps us interpret it.

If you happened to get 30 assists per season and they all appeared to be bouncing off your arse then clearly you are managing to impact upon play positively no matter how often they occur as assists lead to goals and that is the main currency within the game.

People who say ‘use your eyes ignore the stats’ are approaching the subject with a built in bias for sure. Focusing solely on what isn’t happening.

Salah is the only player where the debate is that we have to ignore stats down to ‘quality of assist’ and ‘ignore the penalties’. Look at his. Inners v Grealish say, or Saka.

Is he key for us now? It’s not looking that way. Will he leave? Possibly either this summer or next. Did he contribute to us currently sitting in third in the League? More than any other forward in the squad.

He seems to be the only player to get heat in our current slump. The other 4 have been either average, poor, or injured also - but no mention of them (well Nunez gets heat but it’s valid in the same way Salah’s is).
