Anyway, agree with the general sentiment that our collapse was disappointing, but it is only three points at this stage. Genuinely hope it doesn't affect morale too much as without the sending off there is no way the score would have been 5-0.

I think the players can see that, I'm sure Klopp will have them well up for Tuesday.

Mane needs to control it in order to score, so he uses his foot.

It was an unlucky situation and I think there should be a sinbin rule for these moments.
      makes sense.
      Really?

I can see why it was given. We'd have been howling if it had been the other way. It's a high speed collision, brave keeping and instinctive forward play from Mane. Unfortunate all round.

City had us chasing shadows after that. They are going to be a tough team to beat with XI. No chance with 10. We ended up stuck between sticking and twisting and got blown away.

We've known we can't close shop, so being ripped apart by a very good City side after a poor referee decision was always on the cards.

Long term I do feel as though need to have the capacity to do a Mourinho and totally close down the game. Even if we only deploy it on days like today.

            It wasn't a red.

Bad day to say the least but the ref changed the game with a (typical) poor decision.

Need to forget about the result and move onto the game on Wednesday

We were the better team until the red, though our poor finishing had cost us and they'd taken their one clear chance. After that...I remember when we had Rafa I was always 100% confident of a win if the opposition went down to ten men as we were so good at exploiting the extra space. City are the same under Pep. We'd lost as soon as the red card came out.

That said, Trent had a day to forget, but he'll be better for it in the long run. Klavan was poor again. And there was a worrying lack of fight in midfield (though to be fair Can had been moved back to struggle at CB by then).

Win on Wednesday and we can quickly forget about this one. And Phil can come in for Mane against Burnley, Leicester and Leicester, so we'll cope.

Just unfortunate all round and it killed the game as a spectacle (well for us anyway)

Hopefully Lovren plays next game. As much as I am not a fan he and Matip are our best CB pairing.
He had to go for it alright but foot was just too high IMO. An accident but still caught him in the face. Sometimes you get away with it and sometimes not so much. I do think the keepers reaction and the reaction of the players forced the refs hand. but yeah it killed it dead alright. Very disappointed at just how badly the players gave up though.

You'd hope that it would be automatically downgraded to a yellow, it was a total accident and it wasn't like there was no way he could get the ball

What is he supposed to do, NOT go for it? Just stop and let the keeper clear it?

Whilst there has to be rules, when it concerns human beings making decisions there also must be a degree of flexibility.
I saw a dead fish on the pavement and thought "what did you expect?"
There's no water round here stupid, should have stayed where it was wet

I can't see it being changed though

I saw the ref pull the card from his pocket - and I can tell you it was red.
