I think that one of the most disappointing things for me in the game was the performance of the midfield, as poor and naive as we were in defence, the midfield offered little resistance, city were easily able to play through us because of this, the stats of Henderson and Wijnaldum not making a tackle are embarrassing.

A factor in Henderson's poor performance is the England games imo. This is a bloke that missed a large chunk of the season with a long standing possible reoccurring injury. 4 games in and he's played in back to back England games before an early kick off against a quick and quality filled team. I don't think physically his body is up to it. He put a lot of effort in on Wednesday in the bits I saw. It's hard to ask a player to not play for his country especially now he's captain. It won't happen. But the amount of games will take their toll on a player that does get injured pretty regular especially with the closing down he normally puts in.
Hindsight is wonderful, I wouldn't of started him. But then he can be so influential and he's our captain. It's all ****ed up.

I think we were so confident we were going to blitz them away and to be fair to us, had one of those Salah chances gone in, the game might have been different. Rather than concentrate of how poor some individuals have been, I'd rather try and understand how we weren't able to cope with De Bruyne finding pocket of spaces behind our midfield each time they got on the front foot.
We were never compact enough and as soon as the ball was played from the back possession was lost, they were able to slice through us due to our central defence and midfield shape being wide open. We should have played with two sitting midfielders yesterday I think to give us a bit more depth when we didn't have the ball. Our 3 in the middle works very well when our pressing game is on, but is a liability when we are set up to defend. I think it's a work in progress but will take time to get right. I'm also not sure Klopp adapted well enough as City took a few mins to find flaws in our 3-5-1 set up in the second half. Are we winning?

I think someone posted an article from some journo yesterday about how our style of play contrasts to Guardiola's and how more complex his system is to implement. I think I disagree and one of the reasons I do, is our recurring defensive woes when things go wrong. Guardiola has the same problems and has tried to address them by throwing money at it (believing that personnel alone can solve it). I'm not so sure they are out of the woods in that regard. These things take time, especially if you are trying to be free flowing and efficient defensively at the same time. Are we winning?

For me the issue for discussion is why a player should serve a 3 match ban for an accident? The journalists should be making this the point. I know it won't change the rule now but pressure could force the FA to change the rule in future. This game has gone.Originally posted by rodo View Postgob****e journalist on sunday supplement said he is "stunned" that it was even up for debate that it was a red these pricks are actually paid for spouting ****eAlways borrow money from a pessimist. I'm not too concerned about midfield (Coutinho/Lallana to come back, weariness from international break) but ****ing hell we cannot play Klavan again.
I think he's an awful defender at this level but unfortunately , he might be Klopps blind spot
Also, I think, after the international break and being away from home against a side with individually dangerous players, a more compact, backs to the wall formation might have worked better. Can man marking de Bryune, Henderson doing a job on Dilva and their supply would have been cut off.Last edited by Maxiedge; 10-09-17, 09:44 AM.

In fairness to him it's hard to come in for a rare game and get it right. It might be the sort that needs a few games to get confidence. Or he's just ****.Originally posted by Maxiedge View PostI'm not too concerned about midfield (Coutinho/Lallana to come back, weariness from international break) but ****ing hell we cannot play Klavan again.

I don't think it's an individual problem per se. He should have done better in one on one situations, but these situations should never have happened in the first place. Anyone could lose a challenge 1 v 1 against someone like Aguero (or any world class player) for instance. Mane and Salah had their defence running ragged for 30 mins in the first half. Are we winning?
