I'd rather buy first choice players. The VVD debate has been done to death. If as has been suggested Lovren is playing pumped full of painkillers what is the point of Klavan or another 3rd choice CB? If Klavan or Gomez aren't trusted to start at CB in these situations we needed to bring someone in ahead of them.
