Hierro as an out and out CB then no but as a footballer with a hard guy beside him then yes. Thuram yes but I’d argue Nesta was better than him and Baresi was Baresi.

Hansen vastly underrated as was Japp Stam who was a complete CB. I also like the nasty South American’s so Roberto Ayala, Walter Samuel and the killer Paulo Montero were in my fav list. Lucio was brilliant but a level below as was Jurgen Koehler and Paul McGrath

Hansen was amazing for sure the only thing I would say for that entire era where you could pass back to the keeper is that it was defo a massive get out of jail card.

In that era Hansen was definitely under rated. Barely got any caps for Scotland due to McLeish and Miller… Boy we could do with him now.

Virgil would have been epic in any era of football.
