Mad to think that if things panned out slightly differently, he may not have been here this year.
If we are all only happy when we are really winning in the end, when your race finishes, what life would that be?

Imagine I’ve he’d chosen City and been part of their peak team.

All the talk about the dangers from set pieces and the height of their side he absolutely dominated the game.

I honestly wouldn’t be shocked if he signed another contract. He’s still by far and away the best CB in the world.

Not really much to add. Its all been said before.

                Legend.

Still more time to add some well deserved trophies as befits his status

When his contract expires, he'll still be younger than Silva when he signed for Chelsea.

IMO one of the great CB's of all time, if not the greatest.

He's the type of player Bayern & AC Milan will go for after when his current contract expires if we don't extend.
Nope, don't need anger management, you just need to stop pissing me off!

He has everything, compare him to PL “legends”

Better with the ball than Ferdinand
Better in the air than Terry
                        Better in duels than Stam
Reads the game better than Carvalho

Personally I think he’s miles clear of them and Stam was next for me and probably Paul McGrath after that. I didn’t see enough of Hansen but I’ve seen clips of him in certain games and he oozed class

Think there were a few back in the day in Serie A that would have ran him close too.

Certainly not seen anyone in the PL era that was better than him or even on par with him.

Nesta, Baresi, Samuel, Cannavarro, Thuram, Rijkaard, Montero, Ayala, Aldair ……. Loved my C4 Italian football

Nesta was the most complete but VVD is about 4 inches taller and, kg heavier and much better is the air

Nesta was brilliant alright, and he was actually very good in the air. He played a lot like Hansen but had a lot more physicality to his game when he needed it.

Funny you mention the being good in the air thing. The best guy in the air on your Serie A list is probably the shortest guy there in Cannavarro. He was a beast in the air and brilliant on the ground.

Think he or Nesta, the latter in particular, would run VVD close in terms of being brilliant in pretty much every department.

Think where VVD beats both would be in terms of raw strength.

Cannavarro’s timing and leap were superb but VVD is much bigger and stronger and his raking long passes is another differentiator
