You can't blame him, if he is. It doesn't matter how many times people say it wasn't intentional or it was accidental or whatever, that doesn't change things it was a dangerous and reckless challenge that has robbed him of a year of his career. Just hearing all these pundits saying he's not that sort of player is making me angry, I can only imagine what VVD feels.
The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

He might not be a malicious type of player, but he's an absolute ****ing moron and always has been. You don't need to be malicious when you are that skull crushingly thick and reckless.

Exactly this, he knew what he was doing & he meant to hurt him; maybe not to the extent he has; but Pickford set out to affect the game.

Hasn't been charged either. The sooner we get Ian Wright in charge of the game the better

I think Hendo said that Pickford asked him to pass on an apology at the end of the game.

Was going to say. If I was Pickford I'd definitely have paid him a personal visit and apolosgied. I don't think he intentionally tried to hurt VVD but it was such a stupid tackle, he's just rash and lunges in when he doesn't need to. I think he felt if he hadn't gone in the way he had, he probably would have come out with a serious head injury himself but it was a ****ing daft tackle to make. He'll probably get a retrospective ban I'd have thought.

Not trying to fan the flames here Slinks but it was such blatant disregard for a fellow professional that it might as well be labelled as intentional. Any 3 game ban now won't make an iota of difference for us and definitely won't fit the crime, so I don't see the point really. I just hope his career goes down the pan from here.

There are a few sobering stats on how missed Virgil will be, especially in the air.

Basically its like losing two defeners in the air. Exacerbated by having Adrian at the back.

It's unfair to expect Matip and Gomez to step up. However I'd drop Fabinho back as we're stocked in midfield and hope he can make the position his own until January at least. Matip and Fabinho would be harder to target in the air.

Got to be better than Stephen Caulker anyway.

Matips heading stats are very impressive there to be fair. Main problem is keeping him (and Gomez) fit.

Not sure about how Fabino feels about filling in at CB for an entire season.

I've seen it mentioned in a couple of places that because VAR supposedly reviewed it for a red card and didn't give one the matter has been dealt with and retrospective action can't be taken.

Although there seem to be differing reports as to whether VAR looked at it for the red card...

You would have to imagine that the first choice pairing would be Matip and Gomez, so in theory Fabinho should be able to spend much of his time in midfield. But obviously with the injury records of Matip in particular you wouldn't be surprised if Fabinho spent a significant portion of the rest of the season at CB

Yeah, Matip is very underrated really, very good player. Will be interesting to see what Klopp does now, with our high line.

No doubt he's decent in the air but Virgil is phenomenal. Its not uncommon for Virgil to have about ten headers a game and win them all. Matip has a high percentage but a more regular total headers per game.
