In two minds about his defending. It looks obvious that he should've committed, shut him down and tried to block the shot, and it looks lazy. But maybe the thinking is it's going to take a worldie from there to beat Alisson? A bit like Matip v Norwich, sometimes sticking a leg in makes the deflection inevitable and it's more of a lottery that the ball could fly past the keeper? As it is he has more or less one place he can stick it - right in the top corner - but he's gone and done it. I'd like to hear Klopp/Ljinders talk about this tbh - sometimes VVD can look lazy but there's no way he simply 'can't be arsed'.
Think that sometimes his calmness and amazing positioning can be mistaken for being casual.I don't hate people. I just feel better when they aren't around.

What the **** was that for the first goal?
It might just be perception but he's so half-arsed sometimes it's as if he thinks he's too good to chuck his body in front of something. The amount of times he half-heartedly wafts his foot 'trying' to stop a cross (ie CL final) and then this tonight makes me wonder if he's getting too big for his boots. ****ing sharpen up ffs. Thanks very much for beingComment

He has peaked.
Like kompany had to, VVD will need to change his game to still be effective
We miss thiago immensely.Comment

casual as **** and it is costing us. Not sure it is laziness or him over confident but it's a problem. Hasn't been anywhere near his best after coming back from the injury imo.

The Athletic did an article last year highlighting how our defenders are instructed to tuck in and let the attacker get a shot away, to avoid unpredictable deflections and rebounds. Can't remember the exact detail, assume it was long range shots, trusting Alisson to make the save, but basically think it was just poor judgement from Virg, rather laziness, ego etc. What the **** was that for the first goal?

We certainly do this but.......did you see how slow he was to get back into position? There was a huge gap between him and Gomez. We then left Sanchez completely unmarked and Virg just stood there. To be fair to him I don't think he realised Alisson was doing his best Mignolet impression behind him but still, it was bad.The Athletic did an article last year highlighting how our defenders are instructed to tuck in and let the attacker get a shot away, to avoid unpredictable deflections and rebounds.
