No. Its part of the new agenda. It will be forgotten now they've made an example of one player much like goalkeepers holding on to the ball till outside the penalty area when kicking it down field was after Reina was penalised

I was interested to see the transcript - the referee just basically tells him 'you're off', so it's hardly a surprise that Virg reacts the way he did.
No wonder there is zero respect for officials which then causes issues for poor sods reffing park games down the pyramid.
How hard would it have been to say:
Virgil it wasn't a terrible tackle, I know you were going for the ball and it wasn't as if he was 2 yards past you but the letter of the law says I have to send you off. Hard luck mate etc etc

Not quite just 'you're off', he warns him 3 times that they are just checking the offside, but if it's not, he's off.Originally posted by Cormack74 View PostI was interested to see the transcript - the referee just basically tells him 'you're off', so it's hardly a surprise that Virg reacts the way he did.

Ref (to Van Dijk): Just wait. I’ll tell you, but you need to go immediately if you need to go.
VAR: OK, so the front two on the pass is a possibility of offside. OK, so I’m going to need a line on this nearside defender please. Just on his heel, please.
Ref (to Van Dijk): Just wait. It’s clearly a foul, they’re just checking the location. It’s clearly a foul. I’ll have the ball, don’t do anything silly.
VAR (checking offside): Thank you, confirmed. Nearest defender, left heel please. Matip, please, I think. Let’s try Van Dijk.
Assistant VAR: Brooksy, we’re just checking a tight offside in the buildup, OK?
Ref: OK.
Ref (to Van Dijk): Listen, you will be sent off unless he’s offside. It’s very, very tight, OK?
VAR: He’s clearly, yeah, he’s clearly onside. Check complete, mate. Confirmed all of the decision.
Ref (to Van Dijk): Free-kick. Go, go! Go now. Yes, no offside.

I'll be honest if that becomes the normal level of interaction between the players and ref then i would be ok with it. I think the problem in football is that we are not used to it and as such players will need time to adjust to it.Originally posted by Scratch View PostNot quite just 'you're off', he warns him 3 times that they are just checking the offside, but if it's not, he's off.
Problem is I cannot see it becoming consistent from the referees side of thing and that causing frustration with the players etc.

Well I wasn't quite verbatim agreed, but it's this bit I was referring to:
'Go, go! Go now. (Yes, no offside)'.
Even as a very low level ex (rugby) referee, I think that's incredibly poor player engagement and not likely to engender much in the way of respect.

Is that not a flawed stat in that it highlights that teams are still getting through?Originally posted by Shaggy View Post
