I guess a lot also depends on how this season finishes up for us. If we fall just short, I can't see him not wanting to hang around for at least one more crack.
If we are all only happy when we are really winning in the end, when your race finishes, what life would that be?

OK, so Brewster steps up, but I call BS on no lavish reinforcements. I'd expect one very good attacking signing to bridge the gap should Mane, Salah and Firmino be sent off, get injured, or just stink the place out.

Agreed, might not break any transfer records but expect at least one high quality signing to bolster us for next season

The definition of lavish needs to be eatablished. I believe lavish to be in excess of £70mill.

I wouldn't just define it in terms of money, although I don't expect us to spend £70million on an attacker.

Players like Werner, Brandt are lavish IMO. Players who are good, and can break into that world class bracket. Samuel Chukwueze is someone else with immense talent, who has been linked recently, with a clause of £54million.

Brandt should be the obvious one, with a release clause of £21million, and we were after him ahead of Salah. He's an absolute bargain at that price.

The morning after Liverpool’s recent victory over Cardiff City and training was rather low key, the majority of those who had featured the previous day taking part in a recovery session at Melwood.

James Milner had only appeared as a substitute in Wales and so was involved in a more extensive workout on that sunny Easter Monday, with Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain among those also taking part.

Youngster Rhian Brewster was there too.

As crosses were played into the penalty area, Brewster would suddenly dart towards the front post and dispatch the opportunity. Over and over and over again. Milner and Oxlade-Chamberlain, who is close to the 19-year-old, have long felt that Brewster has the potential to sparkle for Liverpool and the drill appeared to confirm that impression.

They headed inside uttering the phrase, often repeated about Brewster, that “he will score goals”.

Of course, in winning the Golden Boot when England Under-17 triumphed in the World Cup final against Spain in October 2017, the forward has showcased his talent as natural finisher.

Beyond that his qualities revolve around knowing when, and where, to run and his decision-making. Brewster has an efficiency of movement which means he does not waste energy, carrying the confident air of someone prepared to wait until the ball is in an area where he can cast his influence. Then, usually in a blur, he becomes involved.

The question remains as to whether he will receive the chances that Dominic Solanke, for example, did not during his two-year stay at Anfield which ended with a £17 million move to Bournemouth in January.

Liverpool’s attacking triumvirate of Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mané and Roberto Firmino set an exacting standard and rarely miss matches. However, the sense of anticipation around Brewster, who moved to Liverpool from Chelsea aged 15, feels different.

Daniel Sturridge is expected to leave Liverpool when his contract expires at the end of the season and, as has previously been stated, there will not be lavish reinforcements this summer. A step up the pecking order beckons.

Jürgen Klopp, who first took note of the teenager when he scored a hat-trick in a behind-closed-doors game with Accrington Stanley in November 2016, is excited about Brewster for next season.

Brewster was taken to Barcelona this week to experience the Champions League atmosphere

He insisted on the player undergoing his rehabilitation within the first team set-up following an ankle injury sustained playing for Liverpool Under-23 in January 2018. It led to 14 months out as a knee operation, and the setback of an infection, prolonged his recovery.

Klopp’s gesture highlighted his faith, given that it came at a time when contract talks were proving difficult and there were real concerns Brewster would become the latest English whizzkid to move to Germany.

Borussia Mönchengladbach were keen to sign the player last summer when his contract was due to expire, for what would have been a modest compensation fee, and Liverpool were so disgruntled with the Germans’ conduct that they cancelled a pre-season friendly with them. Brewster eventually signed a five-year deal.

Onto this week and Brewster was included in the senior squad which travelled to Barcelona for the Lionel Messi-inspired Champions League defeat.

“He is with us, he is our player and we want to have him around,” said Klopp. “In this case I thought, ‘Come on, it’s Barcelona, let’s give him a first sniff.’”

On the eve of the game, as Liverpool gained their bearings, Brewster could not suppress a smile as he took a video on his mobile phone of the cavernous Nou Camp. He looked like a kid pinching himself in disbelief. Klopp’s instinct is that Brewster has the tools to return in his own right, but for that to happen a pathway must remain open.

I would love to see Brewster come through and establish himself as a regular at the club, he seems like a good lad with the right attitude, and it seems that he is highly rated at youth level and would have been involved before now were it not for the injury that put him out for a year. However I think that we need to remember that he has yet to make his debut for the club, so no matter how talented he is or what people expect from him there is still a long way to go. I think that relying on him (or him and Origi) as our only backup to the front three would be a mistake. He seems like he could cover for Bobby or play the central forward role, but he's not going to be able to cover for Mane or Salah, and we need options/cover there.

We have been lucky that there have been no major injuries to the front three causing them to miss alot of games for us. Obviously the Salah injury in the CL final last year was a big one but he only missed that game, (obviously it could have ended differently were it not for that injury), but had an injury like that happened in the middle of the season it could have wrecked our season, and that remains the danger with not having cover for Mane and Salah.
The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

I agree, with regards to the depth for Salah and Mane, we do at least have Shaqiri (and potentially Ox).

I love the idea of promoting within, but the article contradicts itself, in saying that

For all his qualities that doesn't sound like ideal foil for Firmino.

Now we could of course play Mane or Salah through the middle but Brewster doesn't play wide so we're back to square one.

I'm all for Brewster taking Sturridge's role in the team but we've not solved a problem in what to do for Firmino in games where we really use him.
