We need to get these lads on the pitch whenever possible so they realise there is a chance of actually getting a game. 20 minutes sub time when we are cruising.

Agreed. The number of times we've stuck matip, klavan or Milner on for 10 to 15 minutes when cruising when we could of put a youngster on. Only surprise surprise even with a bench of 7, clubs won't put a youngster in very often.

It's difficult as squads are so big, managers want to keep the fringe players involved.

True...as has been suggested by others on here in earlier threads, when the subs were upped from 5 to 7, it should have been mandated that the 2 new spots must go to an under-23 player. That way there would always be young blood on the bench, and if a team does find itself cruising in the final stages, a perfect opportunity to get a player some minutes under the spotlight.

If that was an FA directive it would be good, but whenever Klopp chooses to give a bench spot to kids, supporters go nuts about our lack of depth and how **** the bench is. Furthermore if said kid does get a few minutes and doesn't tear it up immediately, they ****ed and confined to the scrap heap by fans ( Solanke).
