Can anyone find a proper breakdown of how the draw works?

I had no idea what was going on last year. It seems each country's broadcasters can pick the club's they don't want to play on the same night. So if United are drawn in A-D. We can only go in E-H. City and Spurs will be on different sides so it's 2 each night. Madrid/Barca, Munich/Dortmund as well probably. The Moscow two.

Add in keeping teams countries apart. Complete head****.
