There is a little bit of truth in that, but at the same time he often receives the ball and there are no runners ahead of him or wide of him, so he has to check back or try to hold the ball until someone shows for it.

He actually addressed this criticism in his post match interview:

“I’ve obviously heard that there’s criticism at times that I don’t move the ball quick enough.

“That’s just because I’m comfortable on the ball.

“I don’t want to be in a rush and then I give a ball to a lad who is not as comfortable as me on the ball and he is kind of in a little bit of a challenge and then he gets the blame.

“I’d rather just take it on me and know that a lad who comes to press me is going to have to do an awful lot to take the ball off me.”

100% he’s underrated by our fan base. I think the most commonly used criticism of him is he holds onto the ball too long but you could never say he lacks self confidence or desire. He always gives his all & never moans if he’s the one benched.

Niggling short term injuries have hampered him more than anything. I’ve never wanted him to leave & at worst he’s a great squaddie.

Whenever he plays games consistently he's excellent.

We had this chat before but he needs to play a lot more to reach his ceiling.

From that pov I think he should have left and gone to play somewhere else... but I'm very happy he doesn't seem to want to do that.

I think he is massively underrated.

His real weakness is is maybe a lack of physicallity and blistering pace, but he is what we used to call "cultured" back in the day, and can fill in in many positions.

The problem is he is a bit jack of all trades, and doesnt pin down a position as easily as Dom, Macca and Grav, who all excel in their main positions. I think this leaves him underrated by many.

That said he is a great option to bring to rotate. I would prefer we brought in one more midfielder at DM, but he is part of a very good quartet in there at the moment.

He has had a lot of publicised ( I think) personal stuff going on, not to mention a new kid on the scene since September, so I imagine that is all playing a part.
