Macca was better last night than he has been in most of his recent performances. He's still no where close to what he showed last season though. Curtis is the man in form and deserves the shirt IMHO.

I thought Macca had a decent game too though...at last. He was in a slightly more advanced role than in recent weeks wasn't he?Originally posted by memzey View PostHe was excellent last night, as he has been in a number of his recent performances. If it becomes a choice between Curtis and Macca, for the role alongside Grav, it's Curtis all day long at the moment.

Yeah great all round performance from Curt. The ref was a dick giving him that yellow card, thought he was really gunna lose it with the ref too

1 - Along with completing 100% of his dribbles against Inter (3/3), Curtis Jones led all players in the match for completed passes (67/70), line-breaking passes (14) and passes breaking the opposition’s defensive line (3). Technician.
Looked so up for it tonight.

He has had a few good games, but overall I'd say he wasn't really hitting the level that is required.
He mostly only gets games when others aren't available.
In the psv game everyone noticed how ****e konate was, but Jones was also very poor.
For the third goal the TV showed a replay of the attack from behind the goal, you could see Jones walking towards the goal where he had ample time to sprint back and cover the cross.
Then on TV he's saying the team aren't putting the required effort in...
If he wasn't local he would have been sold.

Him at RM would be able to interchange with Wirtz when Wirtz drifted that way.
Put Ekitike up front and have Chiesa and Gakpo share 90 mins (60/30 or 45/45) on the left.
I like the idea of Dom playing in one of the wider roles sometimes.
You could make it similar to last night and then have that three in midfield like last season.
Wirtz defends from the right but is free to drift around allowing whoever is at RB to provide the width. Dom and Wirtz play centrallly with the ball as two 10’s with Jones and Gravenberch sitting. And Ekitike plays at the top.
Dom can then lead the press from the top like last season with Ekitike and you have two 6’s sitting behind them and Gakpo/ Chiesa on the left and Wirtz on the right without the ball. Defend with a 442 / 4411.Last edited by peterbread; 23-10-25, 04:15 PM.

I think it's OK to have 1-2 of our more in-form players to be impact subs, as long as everyone gets minutesOriginally posted by Doc_Piptorious View PostWell maybe not ideal. but Szobo has played at RM at times for his country and he was used in the role from time to time at Leipzig too.

We don't need to start them all if the shape doesn't work

Right now Jones, Gravenberch, Dom, Wirtz and Ekitike need to be starting together. How you put it all together I’m not sure.

Definitely his best game for us in a long while. But, like with Wirtz, not sure if it was because of a farmer's league team with little physicality or danger. However, you can only play against what's put in funny if you and Wirtz/Jones both deserve their starting places against Brentford.
