He hasn't got the physicality to play Bobby's role, and I don't think quite the brain either. He's a very smart player but Bobby sees the game on another level to most players.Originally posted by Exiled_red View PostElliott is clearly more of an attacking mid than most of our other CM's I think he played wide right when on loan at Blackburn but that was in a 442. I don't think he has the finishing ability or the pace to play effectively in our forward line, for me he is one of the biggest enigmas in terms of where he would fit in the side. A while back I wondered if he could play the Firmino role, but that looks to be Gakpo's now. I think he either needs to improve his attacking play and evolve into a forward or do what Jones has done in his development and settle into a more regular midfield role.
Don't see a long term position with us sadly.

He’s HG so he’s going nowhere imo. Might be different if he was a foreigner taking up a valuable OS player spot but he’s not, doesn’t take a big wage & he’s a likeable ScouserOriginally posted by BG1973 View PostHe hasn't got the physicality to play Bobby's role, and I don't think quite the brain either. He is talking about Elliot not Jones.I don't hate people. I just feel better when they aren't around.

If you still have the grit to be going after jet skiers with your fishing boat, then I would say there is plenty of bite left in the dog yet.

Definitely needs to get games next season.
His contribution is huge albeit in an understated manner.
Since his run of games begun the overall number of turnovers against us dropped a hell of a lot and by a massive amount on the LCM side of our team.
Our ball retention went up then obviously enough and our pass completion rates in the middle third went up.
He is a massive part as to why TAA gets so much time on the ball in the inverted role as there are less turnovers and the less counters coming from midfield area.
The only knock I have against Jones and is the same one I have had against him for years is his reliability in terms of missing time through injuries.
Ability wise he fits a Klopp midfield like a glove. Press resistent, loves to receive a ball when closely marked, rarely misplaces passes, keeps play going and rarely is the cause of a turnover or counter attack. The sort of player that becomes the glue in the middle without ever being overly eyecatching in his play.
He stays fit next season then he is first back up for the LCM slot imo and genuine competion for whomever the starter is if we buy a new guy for LCM.I don't hate people. I just feel better when they aren't around.

This formation change seems to get Jones 15-20 yards further up the pitch, he doesnt have to be an out and out winger/forward or central midfielder, a quite nice halfaway house. A happy accident from the Trent change as theres no way you make the tweak for Jones.
if Trents injured or rested does this whole thing collaspe?

Fair play to the kid, he's been superb over this run of games. I'd written him off as another wasted talent, but he's shown there is a seriously good player there."When a man insults my country I insult him, by taking his woman" Tony Yeboah

Brilliant last night. He’s showing that all that promise from a few years ago is coming through.
Genuinely think he can become a regular on this side.
Brilliant control, good engine, strong - starting to release the ball at the right times and hugely important; chips in with goals.
Let’s just hope he stays fit now.James Philip Milner Fanclub #1
