It annoys me somewhat when kids get written off so early. I thought Jones had real talent when he first broke through, but some people dont fully develop physically until 21-22.

Some people are now saying we should sell Elliott now, for whatever reason... a ****ing 18 or 19 year old.

We should always have patience when it comes to youth players. Considering our injury problems, having a Jones, Williams... or even a Nat Phillips can mean the difference between champions league and europa cup, and many tens of millions in lost revenue.
In the beginning, Fowler created the Heaven and the Earth.

And it is not just recent form with Jones. He has tended to show improvement any time he got a run of games and not just last season.
Klopp has a knack of turning good players into very good players, and very good players into excellent players. Will be interesting to see how he turns out IF he's given a run of games in a team that's doing well

Elliott's an interesting one. I like him. He's definitely got talent. He's also been very good before getting injured. I'm just not sure where his best position is. I don't see him as a midfielder or a forward in a 4-3-3. A change in formation, or a more flexible formation, could suit him.

Yes this exactly. We seem to take our own players for granted, I guess because we see so much of them

And especially kids! The early write offs are crazy, not just for the physical development to come, but the increased tactical maturity that comes with experience

Elliott, for example, may not make it for us, but there's no way anyone can make that call now with any confidence

Fair post. Jones and Elliot will get their chance. If they are good enough they will stay and we'll be happy for it, if Klopp sees them as the required standard or fit for the team. If Klopp deems them not good enough then hopefully we can sell for a healthy profit. Win win

I would put him in the "He's done well recently & lets see what happens" category.

He's young, he has ability, he'll get some game time this season & lets see if he can progress and find the consistency and quality that can make him a main stay in the side. I feel this is another optimism vs realism conversation again, let's not get carried away and just see how he goes. Personally I have no issues with him in the squad but I feel he's only a squad player at the moment with others in that midfield ahead of him in the pecking order.

Also, I feel like I'm going to be called miserable again for this post

Elliot is one we can look at and see there is something there but that he does not quite fit into the systems we use or rather the ones we were using and he has the same problem at the moment fitting in the England u21 team.

But he is also a guy that we are at least a year or two away from having any real idea of how good he might turn out to be.

Had Carvalho not gone to RB Leipzig on loan I would have loved to have seen Elliot go there as think he is good enough to get plenty of game time there and a season getting regular minutes in a team in a strong league that likes to attack would do wonders, imo, for his on pitch progression.

If Leverkusen did not have someone like Wirtz on their books, that would have been another team I would have liked to have seen him go out on loan with as they make use of tricky AMs there.

The lads turnaround the second half of last season has been spectacular. Id written him off, was injury prone and totally ineffective when he did play. That change in formation seemed to do wonders for him.

He's moving the ball a lot quicker now. It was always the big knock on him - he'd dwell on the ball too long and opportunities would pass him by. But now he seems to have learnt when to shift it and when to hold it. Always had the technical ability, but he's learning the craft too.
