Yeah he and Dom were good together. Deserves to keep his place in the XI.

He seems to be moving the ball quicker this season and less of the holding on too long that he’s been guilty of in the past.
The movement ahead of him and having more players capable of receiving the ball in close quarters might be a factor there.
Gives him more options to release the ball quickly to.I don't hate people. I just feel better when they aren't around.

The balance and spacing was much better tonight and it let everyone play to their strengths.

Yes, I still felt therecwas a bit of a gap at times, but Jones making himself abailable instead of charging up the pitch was refreshingOriginally posted by danperkins View PostStrange what we can achieve when players actually work to get into positions to receive the ball. We've all been complaining about this for awhile now.In the beginning, Fowler created the Heaven and the Earth.

Definitely his best game for us in a long while. But, like with Wirtz, not sure if it was because of a farmer's league team with little physicality or danger. However, you can only play against what's put in funny if you and Wirtz/Jones both deserve their starting places against Brentford. One tit for another.

He’s never been short of confidence has he. The good thing about him is he continues to improve each season. He looks to have gone to another level this season and deserves to be starting.
Right now Jones, Gravenberch, Dom, Wirtz and Ekitike need to be starting together. How you put it all together I’m not sure.

Well maybe not ideal. but Szobo has played at RM at times for his country and he was used in the role from time to time at Leipzig too.
Him at RM would be able to interchange with Wirtz when Wirtz drifted that way.
Put Ekitike up front and have Chiesa and Gakpo share 90 mins (60/30 or 45/45) on the left.I don't hate people. I just feel better when they aren't around.

I think it's OK to have 1-2 of our more in-form players to be impact subs, as long as everyone gets minutesOriginally posted by Doc_Piptorious View PostWell maybe not ideal. but Szobo has played at RM at times for his country and he was used in the role from time to time at Leipzig too.

We don't need to start them all if the shape doesn't work

I like the idea of Dom playing in one of the wider roles sometimes.
You could make it similar to last night and then have that three in midfield like last season.
Wirtz defends from the right but is free to drift around allowing whoever is at RB to provide the width. Dom and Wirtz play centrallly with the ball as two 10’s with Jones and Gravenberch sitting. And Ekitike plays at the top.
Dom can then lead the press from the top like last season with Ekitike and you have two 6’s sitting behind them and Gakpo/ Chiesa on the left and Wirtz on the right without the ball. Defend with a 442 / 4411.Last edited by peterbread; 23-10-25, 04:15 PM.
