Need patience with him and we're fortunate at the moment we have options where players will be left out of the match day squad if they're not quite at it.
Absolutely. Klopp seems to be developing him into a Gini type player.

When he played against Arsenal in the cup and was encouraged to go at them, was a reminder of his attacking talent.

Jones is an incredibly talented player with bags of potential. But he is playing to get into 1 of 3 positions in one of the best performing teams in Europe (2 defeats all season). It is the best of the best. Not getting selected doesnt make him ****, it just shows the standards required.

He's a talented player and I like him a lot, but his problem is we're stacked with very good midfielders and now everyone's fit you struggle to see where he gets game time. He's only just turned 21 so still very young but I do think he's at a point where he needs to start kicking on. I wouldn't send him on loan cos we're only a couple of injuries away from needing him - and since Thiago and Keita are so brittle, that's always likely. But I'd like to see him impacting games more regularly now.
The reaction and the willingness to offload just seems a bit extreme off the back of one poor performance and not making 2 squads, which is out of his control.

Just particularly baffling considering our squad issues and considering for years many fans have said we need cheap squad fillers that United were famed for when dominating the division.

I agree with you except the loan bit. I think a run of games for half or a full season would help him enormously & he’s just not going to get that with us bar an injury crisis. And even if that did happen he’d be under mounting pressure to perform as we set such high standards. Anyway that’s my reasoning on loaning him out but I’m not going to bang on about it
Me, I’m either planning a holiday or I’m on one.

Thought he did well last night after a sloppy start. We're in pretty good shape if he's our 6th choice (? - behind Thiago, Fab, Hendo, Keita and Elliott) centre mid.

Yep, I agree, he did very well and it was very encouraging.

Yeah he loved that space out there.

Unselfishly set Mo up at one point only for Salah to ping it to row Z when Jones could have taken the chance on himself.

It says a lot about his character that he gets entirely dropped but bounces back with a fine display on and off the ball, without a single whinge to the media.

He's definitely better on the left of midfield in my eyes.

                    Languishing on page 5.

As someone who was really excited about him when he broke through, I've felt a touch frustrated with him this season but it's easy to forget he's still not long turned 21. Thought he was excellent last night. Much better off the ball, and - bar a couple of times when he held on to it too long (and I was shouting at him to pass it!) - he was very good on the ball too. Could do with sharpening up his shooting, but I'm happy he's here, don't think he should go out on loan and is a good option for us.

Agree, and him being homegrown only makes him even more valuable tbh.

He was getting absolutely roasted by Milner those few times where he was delaying on the ball. One time the Scouse greek was in sooo much space and Jones didnt get. his head up to move the ball on quickly.

I do wonder if he could do with a loan? Getting a season with 30 plus games in? A season at Brighton or somewhere, much as Connor Gallagher has had. He has the raw potential to be an absolute superstar, he just needs to remove that 'sloppiness' from his game.

Hmm. Yeah - good point. With Ox likely moving on that will be important.

He is a good dribbler, I think he problem is that this ability means that he does have a tendancy to hold onto the ball a little too long when the better option is to pass. For me he is a good young player, and the area of his game that he needs to improve is his decision making but this is often the case with young players as that really only comes with experience. I think some of the stick he gets on here is unfair, he's still only 21 and is competing with the likes of Thiago, Keita, Henderson etc to get into the side

Think he was pretty good last night.

You can see the improvements in his game compared to earlier in the season and you can see little hints of the guys he is training with in some of what he attempts to do.

A lot of what we think he is doing wrong is stuff that can be coached and will be down to his level of experience and the fact he is simply now at the level of the guys he is standing in for, so by comparison he will look slower on the bal or that he swells too long at times.

There is a good player in him, though I do think he needs to start more often in competitive games to become that good player be it with us or out on loan with another progressive team.

If I thought he would get enough games I would love to see him out on loan playing under a manager like Potter, Frank, Silva or Marsch but not sure he would get enough starts in any of their teams.
I don't hate people. I just feel better when they aren't around.
