I watched a replay of the first half so I could see how we played when the game was in the balance. I have to say we were excellent and far more in tune than you’d expect for week 1 of a post World Cup summer.

I echo the plaudits for Milner and Naby but I thought Gini was absolutely superb on the ball - v impressive as the deepest midfielder. Looking forward to Monday night already.

One other note was how well Feilipe Anderson did defensively for them, I knew he was good going forward but he worked v hard chasing back also.

Yeah Anderson looked a class above all of their other players.

If they can bed in well West Ham could cause some problems for other teams, but not if they stick with a CM pairing of Noble and Wilshere.

We could easily have been 3 or 4 up at half time.

The extensive pre season seems to have us set well and we looked much fitter then then even if we did begin to tire in the last 20 mins.

It was a good win for the first game

I always think the first game can be tricky as it can take a few weeks for players to get use to new arrivals and for them to get use to the system

For me Milner was exceptional yesterday and Keita showed what kind of talent we bought there. I think as the season goes on hes going to become a real stand out performer

At times I thought some of our play was just not quite there but it was still more than enough to put an end to West Ham

What surprised me is how bad they were, all of them, even someone like Noble who generally makes a nuisance of himself by leaving his foot in here and there. He was miles off his usual level

TAA I thought first half was really off but he improved second half

Van Dijk was imperious and Gomez ( who I have concerns a centrehalf) had a good game

Thought Robertson was also outstanding yesterday, I said sometime ago I think hes the best leftback in the league and then towards back end of the season I suggested he might be one of the best leftbacks in Europe and again I stand by that. Hes certainly the best leftback I have seen at the club since the 1980's

Alisson didnt have much to do but some of his distribution was fantastic. That ball he put on Salahs chest in the first half . He also has a huge presence he fills the goal

From the front line with Keita pushing on it was really obvious how much Firmino drops off to create space to run into. Mane and Keita were exploiting this all day. Salah I thought still looked a little off pace understandly

As for the subs - Shaqiri is a real livewire and really does inject energy and pace into our attacks. Immediately he came on the tempo lifted again. Sturridge right man in the right place and if he can stay fit he could be a real asset
Bob Paisley - "This club has been my life. I'd go out and sweep the street and be proud to do it for Liverpool if they asked me to."

The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

This has been a real weakness with us in the past as we just don't operate that well when we don't have the players to up the tempo again. It's great to know we can potentially batter teams until the 90th minute if needed.

When West Ham had a little spell of good play, I thought we *did* slow down the game to dampen them really well until the battering was ready to start again.
