      Almost certainly not. The Football connection was taken into account as a mitigating factor unfortunately. A totally unprovoked attach would have received as harsher sentence I am sure.
      We are here for a good time not a long time....

        So football is a dangerous trigger for violent behaviour? Does that mean it should be regulated in case we all suffer from fits of rage and violence?

            Did they not take their belts off and use them? I would have used any excuse possible to make it attempted murder... premeditated and using a weapon. Im presuming they couldnt though or they would have.

              Some were alleged to have used belts but apparently not the one who was convicted. It was a single blow (no weapon). He pleaded guilty to a lesser offence so reading between the lines the CPS went with what they knew they could prove rather than risk losing the case.

              This is worth a read in the context of the court case. You can see the played the mitigating factors to reduce the max 5 year sentence.
