Almost certainly not. The Football connection was taken into account as a mitigating factor unfortunately. A totally unprovoked attach would have received as harsher sentence I am sure.Originally posted by Mr Pink View PostI wonder would he have gotten a harsher sentence if it didn’t happen around a football game. Like if it was just a random day and he attacked someone in the street, unprovoked, as it was, leaving him with life long injuries, would it still only be a 3 and a half year sentence?!We are here for a good time not a long time....

So football is a dangerous trigger for violent behaviour? Does that mean it should be regulated in case we all suffer from fits of rage and violence?Originally posted by Cerbie View PostAlmost certainly not. Some were alleged to have used belts but apparently not the one who was convicted. It was a single blow (no weapon). He pleaded guilty to a lesser offence so reading between the lines the CPS went with what they knew they could prove rather than risk losing the case.
This is worth a read in the context of the court case. You can see the played the mitigating factors to reduce the max 5 year sentence.
