17 league wins in a row, it will be great if we stopped them.

But I don't think we will.

Coritiba have the world record for 24 wins in a row.

Real Madrid under Ancelotti came close but fell at the final hurdle.

Yeah that is the only thing that is going to keep me going until we play them, yes I know we are absolute ****e but my god that would be the biggest three points we have ever taken in premier league history in my opinion. Would be ecstatic with a point because would put the skids under their momentum much like we did in February.

If we manage to win the next two games, that will be half a season's worth of consecutive wins.

And if we don't, we'll still be top of the league in all probability.

      Happy days.
      Oh I don't know.

101 points from 38 games. While winning the Champions League too.

No league title, but has to be a big argument that we're watching Liverpool's best ever team now?

Could be argued that we're watching the best team ever

Yes and no. It's a great team but we need more than one champions league to show for it to be considered above some of the previous ones. In the modern era it's fantastic but better than a team that went a whole season using 14 players in the 80's? Teams that played on **** pitches and got kicked to pieces? Dominating year after year. So no for me, but if we go on to win the league then it's probably got a fantastic chance. We've been turned into a winning team. It's highly impressive.

                That is incredible.

The one argument against this being our greatest team is that the rest of the league, bar City are at the worst level they've been since the Premier League started. Mancs, Arsenal, Chelsea, Spurs. All awful.

                Still, highly impressive.
                Oh I don't know.

There was plenty of dross in the 80s too and everyone played on **** pitches so it levels up.

In this day and age it's harder to rise to the top when teams like City have unlimited funds. If we win the league this season it will be massively against the tide of money that's flooded the game

Football was better years ago before money made cunts out of them all.

I suppose the differences between the era’s is what clouds these arguments. I don’t really remember the teams of the 80’s, so I wouldn’t disagree with anyone who says they still pip this team.

But as a counter, I’d say the sheer intensity that players perform at these days is at another level. In the 80’s players at even the best teams got away with smoking 20 a day and going for pints after training. The focus and commitment required now is unrelenting.

You also didn’t have to put in a near flawless campaign to win the title then. Our early 80’s teams were able to draw/lose as many as 20 games of 42 and still be champions.

Then of course from 1985 onwards they didn’t have the demands of European competition to contend with too in addition to the league.

That said, I do think it’s fair to be of the opinion that this team needs a league title to be considered above the title winning teams.

I don't think that's really an arguement, if you look at the table last season all the top 5 sides got 70 points or more I wouldn't say that is far off what we've seen for much of the last 20 years or so. The teams might be different i.e. Man Utd and Chelsea aren't where they were 10 years ago but us and Man City have taken their places, and they are where we were when we were fighting for the top 4. But I don't think that there is a significant change in the balance of the quality compared to previous years.

Spurs made the CL final, Arsenal and Chelsea made the Europa league final.

For me this is a really good team but it needs to win a league title. It might be a great run but the results from last season count for nothing and the games this season will only count if we go on to win the league. In 1990-91 we won our opening 8 games and got 37 points from the first 13 games, but finished 2nd. Great sides win league titles.
The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

United and Arsenal yeah probably. Spurs and Chelsea have both had back to back bottom half of the table finishes in that period though.

Yes, there’s an argument that the league isn’t as competitive as a whole these days. But, on the other hand, you could afford to draw/lose much more often then. Now you need to be near perfect.

Agree with the Mancs, but Arsenal, Chelsea, Spurs have all had mid-table teams during the Premier League era. Their current sides are far from their worst, as well as their best.

Totally agree. Leicester winning it the way they did a few seasons ago was an even bigger David vs Goliath slaying but this one is very impressive too.
