Unless the plan is to tie down all key players on massive contracts and spend heavily next summer to win the 2021 PL, I don't know what the thinking is behind all this.
Klopp himself has said the schedule next season will be unbearable. One extra competition and two 'finals' against City and Chelsea. We've replaced Moreno and Sturridge (who has still scored 4 last season, 2 of them crucial) with Brewster who's never played a minute of competitive senior football. So that's one player less in the squad. We've already picked up injuries to Keita, Shaqiri and Clyne. We're counting on all the injury prone players who've gone missing so many times in the past to suddenly show up and play a part. Many of the key players have barely had a break or pre-season.
Does anyone really think we can finish ahead of City who were already impossible, but have strengthened even further?
