I may be going mad, but isn’t the tackle from behind an instant foul?

So. It’s a straight red for me Clive. Almost a good tackle, but reckless and from behind the player. If those are allowed then we will have amazing ball retrieval stats and hospital wards full of mangled players.

Think it was maybe Kenneth who put it up earlier in this thread, but the guideline for a sending off was put up and under the rules of the game what he did was red card worthy and pretty clear cut at that.
The pic someone posted shows it was definitely worthy of a straight red tho, if Harv has seen that pic and is still not convinced then there's no hope. It's a contact sport yes, but there are limits to what the contact can be.

I'm with you on that one, I am pretty squeamish when it comes to pics...someone links something on reddit with a 'horror tackle' type heading, and i have to read the comments before I decide if I can dare take a look

One of those where if Elliott's leg was off the ground it would have been fine, but cos it was grounded it had nowhere to go..

He was playing brilliantly and about to come off the next time the ball went out of play then that? It's so cruel.

I haven't watched the replay or looked at that link with a picture (those things make me strangely queasy), but the only positive to take is he's so young that this shouldn't affect his career. Hopefully it's an injury he can fully recover from unlike an ACL or persistent hamstring issues etc.

A red can also be given for footballing misadventure.

Yeah, they also have said he's been discharged from hospital (although he'll need surgery this week) so that rules out a bad break. I find it odd that he's already out of hospital tbh - could be a circumstance of the pandemic.

Its definitely a red and it's a classic case of you see what you want to see depending on your disposition.

TBH, I don't mind commentators playing down the tackle as the Leeds player looked distraught and there's no point turning the knife in. He went off without complaint.

The pundits reactions are really weird, it's for sure a red card due to dangerous play, he goes in from the side and has clear contact with the back of Elliots legs.

Unless you get it completely cleanly - which almost never happens when you launch a tackle from behind, it's a foul Everytime and then a red based on severity of it.

There can be freak accidents resulting in a red card, soloman Rondon on James McCarthy springs to mind, where Rondon didn't have time to react after the latter planted his foot in front of the ball as Rondon went to strike it, but this wasn't one of them

Some people seem to still have the idea that if you get the ball it's a clean tackle. For me it's a horror tackle from first viewing, the leg that he doesn't get the ball with is always going through the back of Elliott, he jumps in and it's from behind. It's as clear a red as you will see, I can't believe pundits are still claiming it's a good tackle or that it's the way he fell and the Leeds guy was unlucky to be sent off.
