Harvey Elliot has the potential to be world class IMO. He's got it all.

Interesting to see what happens with Jones. He’s always had that attacking instinct although last season it looked like he was being moulded into a Gini-type player. He’s back to a more attacking role this year which suits him best and as long as he stays injury-free, then I think he’s more than capable of having a career with us.

Elliott’s different like you say. He just has *it*.

I think the big thing with Elliot and maybe where he is pushing himself ahead of Jones is that Elliot seems to perfectly understand the system. He is tactically a very astute player. Jones is a brilliant footballer, but I'd say he maybe is less system focused. In our midfield you have to be amazing in and out of possession and 'possibly' Jones style of football is less suited in big games.

He does has something different than a lot of our other midfielders and in time I am sure he can develop into pretty much an all round midfielder with the discipline to play in our system. But Elliot is ahead of him so far.
      Modifying post.

Jones is still holding on to the ball too long at times. There was an instance yesterday in the first half when Tsimikas made a run down his outside and all Jones had to do was play him in, and he held onto it for 2-3 more seconds, then gave it to him, by which time Kostas had run offside. Frustrating.
Thanks very much for being ‘This Mornings’ Farmer’

Factoring in that Jones has been here a very long time and is older makes Elliott even more special. If he's got a good team around him keeping him grounded then his potential level is huge

I think a run of sustained appearances for Blackburn has really helped Elliott. Nothing beats playing every week, and that's something that Jones has never had the benefit of doing. Probably unfortunate for Jones that he appeared on the scene when our midfield was not quite so lush as it is now, meant going out on loan was never on the cards for him.

100% agreed. I think he has the potential to be a ballon dor contender, in a few years, given how good he is, at such a young age, and given our recent record of improving players, and particularly turning £30/40m attacking players into £150m attacking players.

If he does live up to his potential, that goal yesterday will have a special place on all the YouTube montage clips in 15 years (or whatever has replaced YouTube, haha) as the goal that showed us he’d bounce back from that injury and it hadn’t stopped the promising start he had to his LFC career…
              I don't tip

Reason I mentioned about him being grounded is that things going to his head could be the biggest threat to him, injuries aside

He has the look of a naughty boy. I've seen nothing in his attitude to support this fear, it's just he looks naughty

Harv kind of reminds me of a young rooney, direct with great control.

Jones has always been frustrating, too often runs then stops, holds the ball and passes from a stationary position and by the time he plays it the receiving player is already being challenged.

I just think he’s an example of unfulfilled potential at this stage. I honestly think A loan move would help get the best out of him. We can’t give him enough game time ( unless of injuries ) based on form as there’s loads in front of him in the pecking order. It’s tough on him but he’s got to come in & play amazing to oust someone else or pick up the odd cup match which isn’t ideal for his development.

Good call. Has a similarly low centre of balance too so quick to change direction.

Reminds me more of a young Gazza. I think it’s the two-footedness and bustling dribbling style. Great prospect either way.

Look i was nowhere near that level, but i did score some outrageous goals for my school side, including a goal from kickoff. Absolutely leathered it
