Felt like a coming of age performance yesterday. When I saw his name on the teamsheet I feared the worst, tbh. Not in terms of his quality on the ball, just his defensive work and that him and Milner would get ripped apart.

He was ****ing outstanding in every facet of the game. Well done Harvey
Thanks very much for being ‘This Mornings’ Farmer’

Proper solid game yesterday and the experience of going through the teams run of bad form early in the season will be of benefit in the long run. Be interesting to see of he really pushes on now.

He did really well - the formation helped him, with Fab a little further over to the right.

He used the ball intelligently and didn't panic. Just needs a little more composure around the box and he'll be great!

He did really well and think he’s gonna be a world class midfielder… I’m not trying to take from his performance- but I think it’s a big help when all the world class stars in the team are playing to their potential… van dijk, Trent, Fabinho & Salah have all been poor for a lot of the games so far this season. When they’re not turning up, it must make it so much harder for the likes of Elliott, carvalho, nunez etc to come into the team and settle in. They were all (except Trent) back to their usual world class standards on Sunday, which must make it so much easier to come in and just focus on playing a support role.

He had the best pass completion stats out of all our players.

Right, I'm not having a go at the kid just to get that out of the way.

I'm just wondering what exactly his role is in the team because I haven't the foggiest. I don't know here his best position is but I can say with great certainty that it is not his current one. Where does he fit in? He's good technically and can learn but he is so weak and slow.

For me, at the moment he should not be a starter. He is not tactically or physically right to play here he has been playing. Whether or not he is the right long term option for us remains to be seen but as it stands he should be nowhere near that starting line up.

Maybe it's just where we are at as a team and squad in general and it's not his fault but it is the reality of our situation imo.

I think the issue is his lack of physicality - he’s not fast and he’s not strong. Other players have managed to overcome this by being exceptional at passing or dribbling or whatever.

I’m not sure what the answer is for Harvey… he’ll get stronger as he’s older but does he have the range of passing and eye for a pass which will overcome his physical limits?

He doesn't belong in our midfield three, that's almost certain at this stage.

Agree with all this. It's a problem and a noticeable one whenever he starts.

His best bet is probably back-up for Mo for now. Plenty of ability but physically lacking so much he shouldn't be anywhere near our midfield.

Yep, he seems to make everyone else worse when he plays that midfield 3 role. He just doesn't have the game to play that role.

Not sure why he's not tried in more of a Firmino type role as a false nine. He could actually do ok there as he's a crafty little bugger at times and slipping passes through for Mo and Nunez could be tasty.

At this stage if someone offered stupid money for him and Jones i'd snap their arms off. I don't think either will ever be truly elite. Especially Jones

I said this in the match thread yesterday, he played his best when he was further forward, but when he was there he was hindering Salah's play, since stopping doing that and Salah playing better Elliott hasn't really done anything. Early on I thought he was best suited to a No 10 type role, but we don't play with one. I wondered if he could have been developed into a Firmino type player, but I don't think he has the finishing ability. I think on loan at Blackburn he played as a right winger problem is we don't play that system and he isn't able to play Salah's role.

Clearly he is being played as a RCM, and it seems that is the position Klopp sees him in. The issue for me is that he doesn't play that role the same way as anyone else. He plays that role at least 10 yards more advanced than anyone else playing it or anyone else playing in midfield.
This wouldn't be a problem if it was effective and other people cover the gaps but for me it isn't needed. Salah plays wide right, and TAA is and advanced fullback, there isn't the space for him where he seems to play, half of the time he seems to shuttle passes between Salah and TAA, half of them could have been direct and 2 passes rather than 1 just slow things down, defensively he doesn't cover for TAA enough, and often let's runners go.

I think he has ability I think the problem is he is a square peg in a round hole. Not sure where he should play though. To me it seems we are trying to adapt him to the system but in doing so I think we lose the attacking ability which I think is a big part of his game. For what it's worth I think we are doing the same with Jones. Not sure if this is because we think they will be good in those roles long term or if we are doing it out of necessity in the short term because the likes of Ox and Naby aren't available or good enough

The same Firmino that didnt score a goal for a year?
