I think you use it to give opportunities to give fringe players and kids some games and then start taking it serious if you find yourselves in the semi-finals.

Same really with the FA cup you can only really take it seriously if you either have a massive squad or you aren't battling for both the PL an CL, with the way the game is at the moment.
