There was a discussion on Sky MNF after the match last night about 'the greatest' teams in English history over the last 60 years or so. Carra and Neville awarded points (5 for a European cup win, 4 for a league win etc) over a 3-year period to each team... and Paisley's LFC team came top (not surprisingly) ahead of the Utd team of Rooney, Ronaldo, Tevez etc. Both of them refused to award points for remaining undefeated, or scoring 100 points or more or goal difference etc. The only thing that matters, they said, is pots...

They're entitled to come up with a ranking system based on whatever criteria they want. It's just an opinion, and doesn't make it any more or less correct than any other applying any other criteria.Originally posted by greenturnip View PostThere was a discussion on Sky MNF after the match last night about 'the greatest' teams in English history over the last 60 years or so. But I do think that hitting 112 points (if indeed it does happen) surpasses anything achieved by any team previously in the history of any of the top leagues. And that in itself redefines the way these are ranked.
There's no precedent for recognising such a thing.Oh I don't know.

And in this case, it would be just that. WOW.Originally posted by greenturnip View PostIf an athlete breaks a world record but never wins and Olympic or World championship gold, then sadly, they won't be remembered in the same way. I don't think he'll go full Villa or anything. There'll be a lot of "respect the competition stuff" when asked about records and what have you but players have their own personal goals and will want to stay sharp for any competition we're in.Originally posted by Fierce View PostI was talking to a dad on the school run this morning. Assuming we win the league in March or whatever, do we think Klopp will take our foot off the gas or continue in order to beat every record imaginable?
It doesn't really matter, but how amazing would it be to amass the highest ever points total, the biggest margin AND take away Arsenal's INVINCIBLES tag?
Will he play more kids though?
We've already smashed the "Most points over 38 consecutive Premier League games" with a ridiculous 110.
For football's sake, i hope we don't see that broken, well after us, this season if we win all our games, which would take that to a remarkable 112 (two points dropped). Fantasy stuff.

My son was saying yesterday that he should bring a kid in for each game, just for ****s and giggles. Try and break the youngest kid recordsOriginally posted by Fierce View PostI was talking to a dad on the school run this morning. To get to 114 we simply need a 38 game winning streak which is nigh on impossible. That one's easy even for Est's challenged mathematiciansOriginally posted by labourRed View PostI don't think he'll go full Villa or anything. 100m is all about the World Record. Golds etc impressive but holding the World Record holds the most Kudos.Originally posted by greenturnip View PostIf an athlete breaks a world record but never wins and Olympic or World championship gold, then sadly, they won't be remembered in the same way. We are on the brink of running the 100m in sub 7 seconds.
If we get anything near 110 points it is ridiculous. Think about it. It is just a ridiculous season.
I suspect we will drop some points once the League has been claimed, and if anything, the way to keep it fresh will be to introduce some other players. The guys who have got us into this position have been remarkable. A slight drop in performance is possible and predictable once we have it won. What constitutes a drop in performance now though? A draw?
Who knows, this amount of wins is totally unprecedented.Modifying post.

Yep, they had something like 60% possession against Wolves and still lost. It's pretty rare for the bottom team to hit those kinds of stats on a regular basis.Originally posted by Norbs View PostFeel some sympathy for Norwich. No. Momentum will be key for Europe. If we are not in he might rotate a couple of kids each game but we won't see FA Cup type changesOriginally posted by Fierce View PostI was talking to a dad on the school run this morning.
