Aye I don’t think we’ll win next season, not without freshening things up.Originally posted by foresterbloke View PostI reckon we'll get top 4 next season but not win the league, I think this season's mental focus has us drained.
It’s not just this season the focus though, last one was a killer too and in both the ones before that we played in the last games of the season (the UEFA & CL final). So I think the tiredness is inevitable to some degree - which is why if hoped for new blood
3rd place. Worst champions ever.

I haven’t seen any tiredness in our play though. It’s concentration which has been the problem. Mistakes, offensively and defensively. Bar that, our level of performance has been very good.
We do need players to freshen things up ideally, just to have different ideas and bodies around the place. If doesn’t happen, it won’t be the end of the world as the spine of the team will remain the same for a couple of years or more at least. Are we winning?

I don’t disagree Fredo. But I think mentally or physically it amounts to the same really. And I’d like to see some muscle put in our almost perfect spine to future proof it and give us options that don’t involve a massive drop off in quality.
I do think we need to work on our clinicality too. Arguable we were inhumanly clinical in terms of points before lockdown but not in terms of goals and that’s something which can turn against you easy as seen since the restart.Last edited by Roboklopp; 16-07-20, 09:10 AM.3rd place. We need to apply some context here, the team has won the league for the first time in 30 years, after winning the CL last season and amassing 190 points over the last two seasons. Winning the league with 7 games to spare after the lockdown I think it is natural that we would lose our edge in the last few games. Sure it would have been nice to have got the points record etc but lets be honest winning the trophy is all that matters.
As good as the side has been for the last 2 or 3 years, to be successful going forward we need to build from a position of strength and we need to keep the hunger and desire in the players. It's easy to say these are a great bunch of lads and they will keep going but I think it's human nature to get a little cocky when you achieve what this team has achieved over the last couple of years, so I suspect that Klopp is finding out a bit more about the mentality of his players in this regard since we have wrapped up the title. I don't mean this as a big criticism but I think it is a valid point, it is probably why it is regarded as so difficult to retain the title. The next big challenge is to keep continuing to strengthen for Klopp to learn how to keep the same hunger and desire in the players next year now that they have achieved such a big series of milestones.
In terms of squad development going forward we have to continue to build from a position of strength,The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

Not entirely surprising though
It’s impossible to win every game.
When we stop dominating possession and creating chances I’ll consider some concern. I intend to continue enjoying us being league champions for a bit longer.Modifying post.

Its normal for the players to have a mental 'exhale' once you have won the league for the first time in 30 years. Plus all the C-19 mid season disruption. If I was a player, I would now have one eye on next year and being 100% ready. August will see our competitors playing competitive football while we can work on fitness and prepare, so I fully expect us to be back on our A game for the start of next season.

Two awful mistakes, but Klopp is right when he says the players around the one with the ball weren't helping much. And not the usual sharpness. But for most of the game each one of our players looked to me better than theirs. So the game doesn't worry me, but...
We have to remember our boys have been truly exceptional for nigh on two years. It will be a miracle if we continue at this level next season. The key will be how we react to not having it all our own way.
